CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
"We're going to Earth. I have important business that needs to be done there."
Excitement flutters in my chest before it dies down slowly. There was nothing to be excited about, seeing as though currently, one of my best friends were trapped in the palace jail and the other one wanted nothing more to do with me. Not like he deserves my attention at all.
"Is that where Felix has been hiding out? I haven't seen him in forever." I comment, pulling my suitcase from the closet.
Silence rings through the room and I push my hair from my face, turning to look at Hades. He grimaces, looking uncomfortable.
Dread takes ahold of my body, and my heart quickens. "Hades..what happened up there?" I set down the pair of pants I had in my hand, taking a few steps forward.
He runs his hand through his hair, backing up until his legs reached the bed. He sits, beckoning me over.
I follow, walking over to him but not sitting. My anxiety wouldn't allow me.
He hesitates, " We were ambushed..I conducted the meeting. In case there were ears down here, listening." He sighs, "Some of Poseidon's men attacked...and Felix was badly injured."
Poseidon betrayed us?
I swallow hard, taking a seat on the spot next to him. "Is- is Felix...."
Hades shakes his head, placing a hand on my thigh. "He's not. But he is healing slower than usual, you'll get to see him once we get there."
Relief rushes through me and I release a long sigh, putting my hand over my heart. "Why didn't you just say so?"
"Samira...it was Finn. His twin brother betrayed us."
Arriving on Earth was a whole other feeling. The air was stuffy; thick. Most likely due to the ever-growing pollution. But, there was something else in the air. It smelled sinister, but it was probably just Hades...or the stench of malicious humans.
I can't say that I felt happy to be here, because being in this small world meant you're going to bump into someone you wouldn't want to. It was practically inevitable.
"Once we get into the penthouse, Desa will meet you there and I have some business to attend to later."
We were currently sitting in a car, weaving between the traffic in busy Los Angeles. The driver, Cain, was separated from us with an all black dividing window.
"Business? Is everything okay?"
Aside from the fact that Felix was in extreme care, and put there by none other than his twin brother. Or the fact that Poseidon was no longer on our side, having been swayed to the other side.
"You'll just have to find out, my Queen. You will be joining me." He sends a small smirk my way, opening the door as the car stops. He takes my hand, leading me out the car.
"Mm, for the first time ever my King. Glad to be accompanying you." I tease, wrapping my arms around his neck.
His arms wind around my waist, gripping me tightly. "I truly became accustomed to you referring to me in that manner, I'd say it's even sexy." He comments, leaning down to bite my lip.
I giggle, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. "I suppose I should say it more often then?" I inquire, rubbing my hand down his chest.
He chuckles huskily, his darkening blue eyes twinkling mischievously. His lips brush against my ear as he whispers, "Only if you don't mind being bent over right after." Warm hands glide down my back, reaching my ass. They squeeze gently, leaving tingles flowing through my body. He pulls my closer, pressing my breasts against his chest.
"Get a damn room, you two." A voice interrupts.
I turn quickly, my heart warming slightly. "Felix!"
Hades loosens his hold on me as I pull away, racing over to hug him. Desa appears soon after, giving him the stink eye.
"I told you to wait. You're still healing," she hisses, taking ahold of his arm.
He attempts to smile, that soon turns into a grimace. "I wanted to meet the Queen down here, y'know instead of having her go all the way up there." His eyes are pitch black, and they twinkle with something unidentifiable as he glances behind me.
I narrow my eyes, whirling around to look at Hades. He diverts his gaze from Felix to me, giving me a small smile. "Well, you made that trip for no reason. We're going up anyways." He walks over, grabbing me once more before transporting us into the penthouse.
Desa walks over to me, leaving Hades and Felix to speak alone. "Hey, you." She bumps me with her shoulder, leaning on the counter next to me.
"Hey," I sigh, lifting myself onto the granite counter. "How's he been?"
She shrugs, crossing her arms. "He's been healing, slowly but surely. The only reason why its taking so long is because it was family. Finn knew all his weaknesses, and used it against him." She spits, shaking her head, "I swear, if I see him again, I will leave his head on a stick for his little fucking friends to see."
"Desa," Felix says warningly, limping around the corner.
Desa sighs, "I'm just saying. You know how I feel about betrayal...it's the worst."
Felix's eyes soften and he wraps an arm around her. "I know, but this is something I'll deal with. Not you, or anyone else."
A small smirk grows on my face as I look between them, their eyes glazed over as they stare at one another.
I place my hands on the counter, leaning forward. "Hmm, what did I miss all those days you were gone?"
Felix is the first to look away, sending me a smirk. "You don't have to be jealous, Queen. I'll forever stay loyal to you."
Hades walks in, rolling his eyes. "Careful, Felix. Desa is a wild one." He saunters over to me, his black hair falling into his darkened eyes.
I reach for him, combing my fingers through his hair as he leans over me, placing his hands beside my thighs.
"Look at you, Hades. The King of the Underworld, ruthless and cold...smitten by someone we once thought was mortal." Felix retorts, a shit-eating-grin on his face as his eyes dance mischievously.
I widen my eyes, expecting Hades to retaliate. Instead, he glances down at me...capturing me in his ocean colored globes.
"How could I not be?"
