(you're 14 in this just so you know)
You got home from school to see your mom cooking dinner.
"Hey mom, how was your day?"
She turned around and put down the spatula she was using to stir the vegetables in the pan.
"Great! I have some great news for you and your brother, but that's for later. Oh, by the way, we have a guest coming over later. That's part of the good news. Why don't you go up to your room and finish up some homework while I work on dinner?" She chirped.
This was new to you. She was never this happy. She was either drunk or not home. She was acting different...almost... sober? You noticed the many bottles of alcohol on top of the fridge were gone.
You went up to your room and put on some music while working on your homework for the week. You heard a knock on your door. It was your younger brother, Jack. You were older by around 4 years, him being 10 years old.
"Hey stinky, what do you want?" You asked, swinging open your door.
"Hey, why is mom acting so weird?" He whispered, making sure your mom didn't hear.
You motioned for him to come in and sit on your bed.
"I think she's sobered up. All the alcohol in the house is gone, she smell of smoke is gone, and she's actually home. She also said she has some good news for us later on during dinner, so that might have something to do with it. Don't worry, buddy. We'll finally live a normal life with a normal mother." You said as you patted his back gently.
"Thanks, sis. By the way, what's mom making? It actually smells decent unlike the nasty microwaveable shit she usually feeds us." He giggled.
"I think she's making Alfredo because that's what it smells like. Wow, she must be in a really good mood, because she never actually cooks for us, let alone gives us actually good food." You both laughed.
"Alright, stinky. Get out of my room. I've got homework."
You pushed your younger brother out of the room, laughing.
You couldn't concentrate on your homework. All you could think of was how different your mom was and how much she changed over the course of a few days. Maybe the great news has something to do with it.
You decided to clean yourself up since you were having a guest over. You took a shower and brushed your long black hair and tortured your wet face and hair with the cold setting on a blow drier. You threw on a black hoodie and some leggings. Comfortable and clean, yet still classy. Sorta.
"Kids! Dinner!" Your mom shouted from the kitchen.
You and your brother raced each other to see who could get downstairs the fastest.
Once you got to the table, you saw your mom happily talking and giggling with a tall, tattooed man who looked familiar to you.
"Hey, kids. This is Mike, your father. He's going to be living with us from now on." Your mother almost sounded nervous to tell you.
"Hey, little ones. I haven't seen you guys in years. God, you both look so much like me." His eyes filled with tears, and so did yours and Jack's.
Without words, you and Jack ran into his arms, nothing else needed to be said. Mike held you both close as if to say "I'll keep you both safe and be there for both of you, unlike before."
You looked up at him and realized he for sure looked familiar. Jack looked so much like him.
"Guys, I'm so happy to see you all again. I'm not gonna leave like I did last time. Although I do have to go on tour for a while, I promise I will spend as much time as possible with the three of you before I leave for a few weeks." Mike said, his voice shaking.
You wiped your tired, teary eyes with the sleeve of your hoodie.
Mike looked at you and chuckled.
"Y/N. Even after I left you and Jack, I knew you were special. I knew you'd grow up to be such a mature, smart, beautiful girl. Since I've been gone, Ive been worried about you. Knowing you didn't have the right support to get you through your middle school years killed me. But now look at you. My baby girl is heading off to high school soon. I'm proud of you, sweetheart."
You smiled and Mike wrapped you in a hug.
"Jack, I've missed you, buddy. I always knew you would be a little handful, but that doesn't make you any less of an amazing young man. There were so many things I never had that I wanted you guys to have. Y/N, I wanted to be there when you had your first crush. Jack, I wanted to teach you how to tie a tie or shoot a 3 pointer or something like that. Y/N, I wanted to be there for you when you needed a shoulder to cry on. Jack, I wanted to side with you when someone bullied you. Now, I'm 100% willing to be there for the both if you for the rest of our days."
Jack ran into his arms and you all hugged, your mom included.
"Are we gonna eat or what? This food's getting cold." Your mom giggled.
You guys ate and laughed and told stories at the dinner table until bedtime.
TIMESKIP
Mike walked into your bedroom as you were getting into bed.
"Hey, baby girl. mind if we sit here and chat?" Mike asked, grabbing your black bear plushie and holding it to his chest.
You nodded and motioned for him to sit on the bed with you.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't be here for you when you needed someone. I was stupid to leave you and Jack. Your mom and I were both young, alcoholic druggies who weren't qualified to raise kids. I left for some dumb reason, and I left your poor mother. I didn't know it would be so hard on her. It took me years to clean my life up, but I was willing to make sacrifices just to see you guys again, and I can tell your mom has been working hard to clean up, too. You can't tell me how happy I am to be back with you guys. I promise to be here when you need me, princess. You're my daughter, and I want to make sure you're safe. I love you, sweetheart." Mike said as he pulled your skinny body into his arms.
"I love you, dad. I'm so glad you're back finally." you said, tears brimming your eyes.
You both started giggling and fell back on the bed.
"Hey, you know, when you were a baby, you looked so much like your mom. As you got older, you started to look more like me, whereas Jack, he straight up looks like me when I was small."
You laughed.
"Yeah, I didn't realize Jack looked so much like you until i actually saw you today. It makes me happy to know that we're all connected somehow."
You and your dad laid down in your bed, telling stories and cracking jokes until you fell asleep on his chest, his strong arms pulling your rather small body into him tighter.
"I'm so lucky to have you as a daughter. I love you, princess." He said as you both drifted off to sleep.
You could say this was the beginning of the rest of your life.
wow, an actually decent chapter that actually has a story behind it. it's based on the situation between my dad and i. he left my twin brother and i when we were babies, and we didn't meet him until recently, and now we're a happy lil sitcom dad-joking family. anyways, i think this chapter is sweet. a part 2 is in the works! oh and don't forget to leave a request in the comments. i love you.
