I hadn't seen my boyfriend, Tom, in almost a month and I missed him so much my stomach actually hurt when I thought about it. He had called me two nights ago to give me the bad news about re-shoots on the movie.
"Hey babe," I had answered the FaceTime call excitedly. "Did you get your flight booked? I'm so excited to see you this weekend! Woah hey, what's wrong?"
I had looked up from painting my toes halfway through greeting Tom only to see him tiredly trying to smile back at me, but you knew when his smile was genuine and this was not one of those times. He was in bed, leaning back against pillows without a shirt on and I could see the prominent dark circles under his eyes.
Tom breathed in shakily, running his hand over his face. He started to speak but the words caught in his throat and he coughed dejectedly, I could see that he was getting worked up.
"Tom, hey, Tom. Calm down, I'm sure whatever it is, everything will be okay," I said, keeping my voice even and calm.
"I just, I wanted to see you this weekend like we planned and now I can't because the weather has made the re-shoots impossible and I need to see you," the words seemed to to burst out of my boyfriend and my heart ached when I realized he was telling me that he wasn't coming back this weekend. A plan started forming in my mind, but I knew I needed to calm him down first.
"Thomas Stanley, look at me," I spoke up. Tom looks into the camera on his phone intently, still breathing hard. "Everything is going to be okay. So, we can't see each other this weekend, there are other weekends, we've been apart longer than this before, Tom. It's not ideal, but we can do this. We'll be okay."
Tom's mouth quirked up halfway, this time the half smile on his face was genuine as he nestled back into the pillows on his bed. His eyelids were drooping and he was blinking slowly as he looked at me. He took a deep breath and let it out, making me smile as I realized he was calming down. I opened my laptop and set my phone with FaceTime up against the open screen so Tom could still see me.
"I don't know how you do it, Y/N, but you always manage to make me feel better even from across the country," Tom was mumbling his words now and he shifted in the bed to prop his phone up against another pillow. "I'm sorry I got worked up, I was so looking forward to seeing you. I can't believe they waited so long to tell me I couldn't leave this weekend."
I murmur my agreement as I concentrate on buying a plane ticket for the upcoming weekend. Just because Tom couldn't come home didn't mean we couldn't see each other. I could do my work on my laptop while he was on set. I vaguely realized Tom was almost completely asleep now, it being well passed midnight where he was.
"Your smile is so pretty, Y/N, prettiest thing I've ever seen, I love you so much," he was whispering now and doing that thing I loved where he was trying to hold onto consciousness by speaking in run on sentences. Eventually he would drop off to sleep in the middle of a word. "I miss you so much it makes my chest hurt sometimes, Y/N, I wish you were here with me..."
And he was out. I smiled softly, his curls distracting me for a second as his breathing caused them to flutter slightly against his forehead. He looked so relaxed when he slept, I always worried about how much he was sleeping when he was away working, knowing he was a perfectionist and had a dogged stubbornness when it came to getting the perfect take or learning a new stunt. I finished buying my ticket and leaned my phone against the pillows like Tom had done with his, before shutting my laptop quietly and getting up to start packing.

Harrison walked beside me, rolling my larger suitcase behind him as we made our way to the hotel room Tom was staying in. I was tripping over my feet in exhaustion, flying by myself gave me terrible anxiety, so by the time I had arrived at the airport in Atlanta I was ready to just collapse on a bed and sleep for twelve hours.
"He's going to be so excited you're here, Y/N. He's been in a shit mood ever since he found out he couldn't go back to see you," Haz said. He stopped in front of a door and knocked like a maniac, laughing as the loud noise startled me out of my half asleep stupor and jogged down the hall to the next door over. "You guys better keep it down tonight, if you catch my drift!"
The door in front of me swung open just as I pieced together what Haz meant and flipped him off as he disappeared into his room. I was yanked forward into a warm body and my face was pressed into Tom's chest.
"Y/N? You're here? Oh my God, how are you here? Hi!" Tom said frantically, like he couldn't believe he was holding me. I wrapped my arms around him and just breathed him in, loving his fresh out of the shower smell. Tom started swaying back and forth slightly, and it was like I was being rocked to sleep. I started drifting off standing up, with my smaller bag still over my shoulder and my suitcase leaning against my legs.
"Baby? Did you just fall asleep standing up?" Tom's soft laugh pulled me out of my sleepy fog slowly but surely. "Come on, let's get you to bed, darling. I can't believe you flew by yourself just to see me. God, I love you so much."
I felt him reach behind me and grab my suitcase before ushering me forward with a hand on the small of my back. I stumbled forward, almost falling before Tom wrapped an arm around me and scooped me up gently, setting me down on the bed nearest the door. I sat there blinking in the light of the TV Tom had left on when he went to answer the door. Suddenly Tom was kneeling in front of me and pulling off my shoes gently, before he handed me a soft t-shirt. Blinking slowly, I realized he was now shirtless and had handed me the shirt he had been wearing. I stood slowly and stripped off my leggings and my own shirt before tiredly replacing it with Tom's. I turned straight around and climbed into the bed, nestling into the pillows and holding my arms out towards my boyfriend.
"Hi Tommy, come cuddle, talk tomorrow, love you, goodnight," I tried to say, making Tom laugh out loud as he turned off the TV and climbed into bed next to me. He pulled me into his side and kissed me softly. I hummed tiredly into the kiss, completely content in that moment. Tom broke the kiss and pressed his lips to my forehead as he rubbed my back lightly.
"I love you, Y/N, I am the luckiest guy in the entire world," he whispered.
"I love you, Tommy," I whispered back.
"Goodnight darling," was the last thing I heard before sleep claimed me and I drifted off cuddled into my boyfriend's chest for the first time in over a month.
