I was supposed to meet Tom for lunch, but he was running late from set. Luckily, the small diner where we were supposed to meet that was close to where they were filming was right next to a book store, so I wandered next door to browse while I waited for my boyfriend. Walking up and down the aisles slowly, I perused the book titles, looking for any that I couldn't live without.
Rounding the end of the aisle, I bumped into a solid body of a guy who had his head bent down as he walked and read a book in his hands. The book fell from his fingertips and hit the ground from the force of our impact. I leaned down to pick it up, reading the title The Knife of Never Letting Go.
"Oh, this is such a good book," I exclaimed before I realized I was still holding a perfect stranger's book. The guy I had run into was still standing there, looking a little shocked at the sudden turn of events.
"I am so sorry," I said, scrambling to shove the book back into his hands. "That book is great, though, have you read it before?"
The guy looked down at the book again and then met my eyes quizzically. "I actually haven't, but I heard they were making it into a movie and I like to read the book before seeing the movie and then I compare the two, it's a guilty pleasure of mine."
"I love to do that too, even though the books are almost always better than the movies," I tell him.
"I totally agree, you get so much more detail with your characters from the books, movies just don't have the time to give you details," he said, grinning down at me for a moment, silence falling before I spoke up.
"Oh, I haven't introduced myself before forcing my opinions on you, my name is Y/N," I held my hand out towards him.
Grabbing my outstretched hand, he says, "I'm Grant, it's nice to meet you. So why is this book so good?" He holds up the book in his hand.
"Well, I think I'm a little biased," I said, giggling, "I'm dating the star of the movie adaptation of the series. I read all three of the books because I always read the books my boyfriend makes movies for, but these were honestly amazing, especially if you like dystopian societies."
"Wow, really? That is so cool! Is it going to be on the big screen anytime soon?" Grant asked excitedly.
"Actually-" I started, my words suddenly being cut off when a tan pair of arms wrap around my waist from behind and I am pulled into a warm chest.
Tom.
"Hi babe!" I greet him excitedly. "We were just talking about you!"
I tilted my head up and to the side so I could see Tom's face better, only to see him glaring at Grant, who was now shifting awkwardly. Tom attempted to pull me closer to him, resting his chin against the side of my forehead, obscuring my view of his face. I managed to work my arm in between Tom's side and my own, an impressive feat with how tightly he had me pressed up against him, and dug two fingers into my boyfriend's ribs, silently telling him to calm down. Tom responded by pressing his lips firmly to my forehead and poking you back.
Grant appeared to suddenly piece some things together and he spoke excitedly, "Wait, you're Spider-Man! Dude you're absolutely amazing as Peter Parker! I love what you've done with the character!" Grant held the hand that wasn't clutching the book out to Tom and Tom moved around me to shake his hand reluctantly. I noticed how Tom stepped in front of me like he was protecting me and I rolled my eyes.
The two boys started talking and I wandered off to browse some more, eventually walking back to where they were standing a little while later. They were having what appeared to be a friendly debate, and I noticed Tom was genuinely smiling now. I walked up to the two of them, Tom noticing me and raising his left arm up slightly as he carried on talking with Grant, allowing me to tuck myself into his side and lean my head onto his shoulder. I half-listened to the conversation for a moment, before my stomach growled loudly, interrupting Grant midway through a sentence.
"If I'm this hungry, I bet you're starving after working on set all day, babe," I say sheepishly. Tom nodded down at me.
"Sorry for keeping you, bro," Grant said. "Thanks for the pictures, it's really great to meet a celebrity who's as nice as everyone says they are." Tom and Grant do some handshake and Grant walks off to keep shopping. Tom turns back to me, smile faltering when he sees the expression on my face.
"What's that look for?" he asks.
"What do you think this look is for, Thomas?" I said. "I can't believe you were jealous!"
"I was not jealous!"
"Oh, please!" I scoffed, laughing at my idiot boyfriend. "Come here!"
I crooked my finger at him, causing him to stoop down slightly so we were eye level. I hated being so short sometimes. I put both of my hands on Tom's shoulders and stare him down silently.
"You, Thomas Stanley Holland, are a proper idiot," I told him slowly, imitating his British accent and speaking to him slowly like he was a small child. I bit my lip hard, trying not to burst into a fit of giggles when his eyes narrowed playfully at me. Tom's eyes drifted down to my mouth, and his own quirked up into a half smile. He pulled me into him and kissed me deeply, smiling as I kissed him back. Suddenly, both of our stomachs growled loudly and we broke away from each other, both laughing.
"We need to eat, I have to be on set in an hour," Tom said, grinning down at me.
"Fine, but you're paying since you're denying that you were so jealous you were almost mean to a nice fan!"
"I was not jealous!"
We walked hand in hand out of the book store and over to the diner next door for lunch, arguing playfully and laughing like two people in love.
