reckless (t.h.)

My boyfriend was probably the biggest, most dedicated idiot on the planet. If he wasn't trying insane workouts or falling downstairs and tearing his ACL, he was working to lose crazy amounts of weight or doing dangerous stunts on set. I knew I was a worrywart. Tom knew I was a worrywart. Probably anyone who had ever talked to me more than once knew I was a worrywart.

Did that stop him from making impulsive choices? No.

I loved Tom more than anything in the world, but sometimes I seriously thought the man's sole goal in life was to try to send me into cardiac arrest. I had long since lost count of how many times I had walked into a hospital room in a blind rage only to  be completely calmed by the sight of a slightly bruised Tom grinning at me widely and giving me his signature "forgive me" eyes. What I did know was that particular scenario happened far too often.

My train of thought was interrupted by a woman in medical scrubs entering the private waiting room we were in. I blinked, coming back to myself and slowly remembering where I currently was. A bland, brightly lit waiting room in some hospital, waiting on the edge of my seat with a group of ungodly famous Marvel actors for any news on my idiot boyfriend. I was slumped in an deceptively comfortable looking chair between Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, both of whom had spent the better part of the first three hours we were here trying to keep my mind off of everything and while I adored them for it, I just couldn't be distracted.

A stunt had gone wrong on the Infinity War set and after they had finally gotten control of the huge swinging pieces of what was supposed to be concrete, Tom was unconscious on the ground and I was holding my breath next to Evans waiting for him to get up. He didn't, and I almost ended up passing out myself because the medical team rushing out to my unconscious boyfriend had caused dark spots to start dancing across my vision. At the very least I had a very small anxiety attack, which Evans helped me through as he led me to where I couldn't see Tom anymore.

"Are you going to be okay to ride in the ambulance with him, Y/N?"

"I have to be," I answered softly, staring down at my trembling hands. Harry had gone away for the weekend since I was visiting and he wanted a break from taking care of the mess that is Tom Holland and I was the only source of information that Tom's mother Nikki would have after I let her know what was going on. I took a deep breath as I heard the sirens of the approaching ambulance, clutching on to Chris' hands before moving towards the now stopped vehicle.

I remember holding on to Tom's hand and feeling completely disconcerted at how limp it stayed in my own. I remember thinking the whole ride was eerie because of how still Tom was. Tom was never still unless he was deeply asleep, and even then he was what you could call an active sleeper, tossing and turning. Or unconscious because he insisted on filming a scene with dangerous props before they had run a test that day.  I just watched him, occasionally shifting as the EMTs moved around me, keeping my gaze on his face, hating how morbidly fascinating it was to see his countenance so utterly still. I think I cried silently the entire ride, because my face was wet as I watched the gurney be wheeled off and an EMT helped me out of the back of the ambulance.

Now, I was stuck in the hospital Tom had been brought to, waiting for any news on his condition. I stood and walked to meet the woman who had just entered the room.

"How is he?" I blurted.

"Doctor Adams is confident he's going to pull through. His injuries were extensive, but the most concerning was the head trauma. Mr. Holland has 4 bruised or cracked ribs, multiple abrasions on his back, he tore his right meniscus and will wake up extremely sore. Dr. Adams is mostly concerned with the swelling in Mr. Holland's brain, which mas minor, but may cause him to have slight issues with his short term memory surrounding the accident. He should make a full recovery with some physical therapy and a lot of rest and recovery."
