Third Person POV

Climb the stairs to your apartment
Just to see you holding him
You try to tell me that it's nothing
So I keep coming back again

Tom pressed his phone to his ear for the third time in a row, the call going to Y/N's phone and Tom letting out a frustrated huff when it rang until reaching her voicemail again. He parked his car outside of her apartment complex, excited to see her now that he was back in Kingston for a well deserved break from filming. Locking the car, Tom hurried into her apartment complex and made his way to the familiar staircase, choosing not to use the elevator since Y/N only lived one floor up. He couldn't wait to see her, a smile pulling up the sides of his face as he thought about all the things he had missed being able to do with his best friend.

Tom took the stairs two at a time, shoving his phone into his pocket as he opened the door that led to Y/N's floor, the smile dropping off his face as he took in the sight in front of him. His feet stumbled to a halt as Tom watched Y/N hug a man Tom didn't recognize, leaning up on her toes to press a kiss to his cheek before they hugged again. He didn't know if a heart breaking could cause physical pain, but in that moment he swore he could suddenly feel his chest aching every time he took a breath. Tom watched as the stranger Y/N was hugging turned and walk off around the corner towards the elevators before Tom spun on his heel to make his way dejectedly back down the stairs.

"Tom? Is that you?"

He froze when he heard Y/N's voice float down the hallway towards him. He huffed and debated pretending like he hadn't heard her call his name, but it was too late. Y/N was hurrying down the hall towards him, an expression he couldn't quite decipher adorning her pretty face.

"Oh, hey, Y/N." It came out sounding a little strangled, and Tom coughed, trying to hide how awkward he felt in that moment. It was funny how now he was a world renowned actor, but when he got in front of her he couldn't fake anything to save his life.

"Hi! Were you coming to see me? Did you call?"

Tom slowly turned back to face her, knowing he probably looked like he just got punched in the gut.

"Tom? Are you okay?" She was right in front of him, reaching out hesitantly, like she wanted to pull him into a hug, but was unsure he wanted to be touched.

You're looking right in my eyes and I know that you're lying
When you say that you're mine and there's nobody else
But even when we fight, I can't stop from loving you
You know we can't be friends, I guess this is how it ends

"Who was he?" Tom hated that his voice quavered when he asked the question.

"Who was who?" Y/N said, tucking her hair behind her ear and looking down at their feet.

"Don't play with me, Y/N. You know exactly who I'm talking about."

"Oh him? You saw that? Come on, Tommy, that's nobody! Just some guy from one of my classes at uni," Y/N said, looking up into Tom's brown eyes. It hurt that she used his nickname when she wanted him to believe a lie.

"I thought..." Tom trailed off as his courage left him.

"Thought what?" Y/N said blandly.

She really doesn't get it. Tom thought sadly.

"W-well, I just thought... You know... with everything that happened before I left. Y'know, at t-that party? I thought you felt the same way," Tom stuttered lamely, hating how nervous this was making him.
