Tom's POV

When I made plans to go out with the guys, it really was just supposed to be a guys night out. I had no intentions of finding a girl or doing much of anything else besides having a few pints with my mates. We were doing a little bit of bar hopping, going to a couple of local pubs and just having a nice time out since I had a longer break from filming. I was loving just getting to be home and see my family and spend time with the guys.

Couple cover charge stamps got her hand looking like a rainbow
In and out of every bar on a whim just like the wind blows.

It was at the second pub that I realized the girl I was standing next to at the bar while I was putting in an order for another round had been at the bar my group had just come from. She was sitting in a tall bar seat, leaning against the counter with a drink in front of her and a line of shots next to the glass. The back of her hand had an array of different colored inks on it, it took me a second to realize that they were cover charge stamps from different clubs. She'd had a busy evening and she seemed to be on her own, so I made a mental note to make sure to watch and see if anyone bothered her.

I moved back to my table with the round of beers on a small tray in my hands and sat down with my mates. They were asking me about traveling for filming and I was laughing as they shared stories about everything they had gotten up to while I was away. Suddenly I noticed people around the pub staring at something in the general vicinity of the small dance floor on the opposite end of the bar. Running a hand through my hair, I turned to see what everyone was looking at.

She's bouncing like a pinball
Singing every word she never knew
Dancing with her eyes closed like she's the only one in the room.

The girl I had noticed at the bar earlier was now up and singing along to whatever song was playing. It sounded like Ariana Grande, but I was terrible when it come to knowing music. Looking more intently at her, I noticed she was crying as she swayed shakily back and forth, drink clutched in her hand. I could tell she knew the song, but it looked like she was so drunk that the words were completely escaping her, because what was coming out of her mouth loudly was not at all correct based on what I could hear. The girl was barefoot, I looked and saw her shoes perched on the chair she had been sitting in at the bar, they looked insanely complicated and I couldn't blame her for taking them off.

I realized I had been staring too long when my mates started giving me shit for not paying attention to them. I turned back towards my table, but I couldn't get over how sad the girl looked, like her entire world had been shattered and she had been forced to watch the disaster in its entirety. Apparently I was too far in my head again because my friends yelled my name and laughed loudly when I jumped in my chair. I shook my head at their teasing, volunteering to spring for another round. Really I just wanted to catch another glimpse of the girl, I couldn't figure out what it was about her that I was making it so hard for me to get her off my mind. I hadn't even spoken to her. When I turned towards the bar, my eyes immediately searched for her, but she had disappeared, along with her shoes. I feel my eyes scan the entire pub of their own accord, trying to see if I had missed her. She was nowhere to be seen.

The lads and I hung out awhile longer, it was late when we finally called it a night, almost midnight. I shrugged on a leather jacket over my flannel and made sure I had my phone, wallet and my keys to my apartment before walking out into the street. I turned to start the walk back to my apartment, when I noticed an insanely complicated shoe sitting on the sidewalk at the corner of the building. It looked familiar, so I cautiously made my way around the corner to find the girl from the bar earlier crouched down on the sidewalk and rifling through her purse in a panicked manner. She held the other shoe in her hand, but must have dropped the one I saw when she crouched down to go through the bag. Suddenly, she made a sound of drunken triumph and brought her hand out from deep in the bag, clutching keys and her phone. She stumbled to feet, swaying as she noticed that she only had one shoe in her other hand.
