lazy days (t.h.)

As I blinked awake to the sun streaming into our room, I let out a deep breath as I tried to remember the last time I hadn't woken up to either mine or Tom's blaring alarms that always seemed to be set for morning hours so early, we were gone well before the sun was up. I couldn't remember. I also couldn't think of the last time I woke up feeling like I had gotten enough sleep the night before. I always seemed to be running on not enough energy and way too much caffeine.

Today was my first true day off in months, it was the start of winter break for the schools and I had spent almost all of the day before explaining to my kindergarten students that they wouldn't see me again until after the holidays. I was more than ready for three weeks off with no lesson plans due, no papers to grade and plenty of time to spend with family. I tried not to think about how I would only get to see Tom for less than a week for Christmas and New Year's due to re-shoots on one of the movies that he was in that was supposed to come out next year, I was too tired to dredge up the name of the film. While I was looking forward to the break, I was also kind of dreading having so much time on my hands without Tom in town. He never failed to make the most of every moment and I struggled with that because my focus was so tied up in my students.

I blinked lazily, not even bothering to wonder what time it was and almost dozing back off before I heard a movement in the hallway outside of the master bedroom. I froze, the thought of falling back asleep completely vanishing from my mind as I concentrated on listening.

"Ow! Fuck!"

"Tom?!" I breathed out, certain I was imagining things because I missed him and he hadn't been home in three months.

Suddenly Tessa's excited barking rang out in the hallway. I flew off the bed and flung the door open, scaring my wonderful dork of a boyfriend on the other side of it so badly he flinched, yelled and fell against the opposite wall of the hallway, dropping his bags in the process.

"Tom!"

I barely gave him a chance to recover before I all but fling myself at him, trusting him to catch me. And he did, like he always does. Tom wrapped his arms around me, tucking his head into the crook of my neck as I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck, both of us clinging to each other like we never thought we'd get another to hold the other. Tessa jumped around by Tom's feet, ecstatic that Tom was home. Simultaneously, Tom and I each drew in a huge breath and pulled back slightly, him still leaned back against the wall opposite our bedroom and me still wrapped around him.

"Hi baby."

"Hi Tommy."

He leaned his forehead against my own and closed his eyes, exhaling softly and allowing me to get a good look at him. He had dark bags under his eyes, almost drowning out the light dusting of freckles that rested high on his cheekbones. His curls were wild, he had obviously been flying and hadn't wanted to bother with gel. I reached up and traced his lips with my fingertips, smiling up at him when his brown eyes blinked open and met mine. Tom smiled, wide and happy despite how exhausted he looked and I felt butterflies in my stomach as he leaned forward and pressed his mouth softly to my own.

I don't know how long he held me there in the hallway, just kissing me languidly, without any sort of hurry, but I did know when he straightened up and stepped across the hallway and into out room, setting me carefully down on the bed, that I was no where near ready to be anywhere but in his arms. I had just gotten him back and I wanted to be right next to him for as long as I had him here. I must have made an unhappy face because Tom suddenly let out a bark of a laugh, moving to kiss me deeply before going to grab his bags from the hall, snickering the whole time.

"Don't pout, Y/N, I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere until after New Year's."

"I, uh, what?! Are you serious?" I exclaimed in disbelief. "They gave you almost a month off?"
