Sob stories that make your eyes roll

So tonight I'm going to talk or should I say rant about the stories who just have sensitive topics just for the sake of having them in there and they're handle so badly they basically make you cringe or just abandon the story all together before it even starts

Before I get started if your story is about bullying abuse rape self harm or suicide let it be part of the plot or something that happens in the book because it's a DARK story and you want to explore those topics but still use them realistically and don't just act like it never happened a chapter later this chapter isn't at you I myself love dark stories so let's get started ...

Bullying (mostly in werewolf and creepypasta stories ) is so unrealistic even if you go to a small school of 200 students they're not all gonna hate you like seriously you'd want to do something pretty bad for a whole school to hate you as teens most of us don't give a fuck about who's what we just try and get through the day I know we live in a generation of people who would rather video record you being beaten up for likes than help you but I doubt your whole class will join in because your poor ,your parents are addicts or your small yes they all might ignore you (that's more realistic) but even a group of ten people beating you up will give you far more than a busted lip or black eye I've seen so many stories give this big bully scene and than act like it never happened for the rest of the story and it's fucking annoying because something like that plays on a person they don't just forget the minute they get some dick or pussy if you're gonna have your main character bullied we want to see them deal with it and get some kind of justice especially if you're gonna have your main character fall for your bully which brings me onto ...

Bullyxreader your bully doesn't fancy you they don't call you names or beat up because they like you and if they start touching you sexually it's not out of love there's something darker behind it and I find it disgusting the main character just automatically falls for their tormentor the minute they show any affection it's send such a bad message to younger readers if you're gonna make that kind of story use your common sense ask YOURSELF if it was you what would you do ? You wouldn't trust them would you. it would take a lot for you to even to relax when they're in the same room nevermind fall into their arms but if you have the reader and bully make it years after it's not as bad maybe the bully didn't think it was bad at the time or doesn't remember and you can have a good story of the readers emotional struggles and the bullies of realisation and forgiveness even if they fall for the bully still make it a slow burn of them trying to make it up to the reader and gain their trust

Abuse (mostly in high school creepypasta and werewolf ) if you're gonna have that as well make it realistic as read about beating that would have someone dead but the main character act like it never happened a chapter later than never mention it at all throughout the whole story something like that will effect you mentally as well as physically and emotionally especially in relationships as well as bullying a lot of your readers will read your book to escape that so they want to see your character overcome it and even if they don't get justice give them a moment of realisation that it wasn't their fault they didn't deserve it let it play out in some way in the story if your gonna have it in the first chapter or a flashback

Rape ..
If you're writing a dark story were realistically it would happen or the whole plot revolves around it just make sure to mention to your readers before they start the book but if they're no reason to have it in your book or you're just gonna use it for shock value for a chapter than that's it don't ok it's a serious issue that many victims never get justice for not something you can just use meaninglessly in a story

Self harm eating eating disorders and suicide- again serious issues that need to be handle with respect so if they're not part of the story don't use them I've seen so many books of the main love interest just telling the character "stop" or hugging them than everything is fine and they're over it ... a relationship doesn't stop depression or any other mental illness seeking help and talking to professionals does

School stabbings/shootings - look this is something we all go to school everyday fearing if you think school shooters are sexy and you're writing a story about one please delete it and seek professional help unless you're writing about your experience because it happened at your school Or you're raising awareness by all means let your voice be heard

Racism and religion using any of them incorrectly causes a lot of trouble and makes a lot of people angry so do your research get your facts right and certainly don't use stereotypes 🙄

So don't use sensitive topics meaninglessly they affect someone in some way and also it ruins your story it's a major turn off

If you've been affected by anything I've mentioned please speak out and seek help you don't deserve it and it's certainly not your fault
google search your local helpline if you want to talk to someone about it but you're not sure publicly yet a professional can give you way better advice than I can and they can go through your opinions too
