DIFFERENCE!

i hadn't grabbed my overnight bag or the rest of my things. i had my pajama t-shirt, my basketball shorts, my shoes with no socks and my cell phone, running on an 87% battery percentage. i knew by now everyone was blowing my phone up with messages, from my phone buzzing uncontrollably, but i didn't feel like answering. i couldn't help that i zoned out on them, but i still felt bad and really embarrassed.

"he's not answering." ben said, constantly texting eddie.
"yeah, and when i call, it goes to voicemail." mike said, almost feeling defeated.
"i'm going to go find him." i said, grabbing my keys. i ran out the screen door. beverly got up and ran behind me, stopping me at my car door.
"i know we're all worried about him right now but if he's not answering, don't you think he'll want to be alone?" beverly asked.
i pulled my door open.
"don't you think i know that," i said. "he doesn't need to be alone right now. he probably thinks we all hate him." i finished, closing the car door and quickly starting the car up and leaving beverly in the dust, standing alone in bill's driveway.

who knew how far bill's house had been from my own? my phone quit vibrating in my pocket finally, relieving me a small bit.
my mind ran endlessly. they all probably thought i was a freak, some lunatic. a loser. why did i have to move from chicago to here, where everyone hates me and i didn't fit in at all. i wished i still lived in that small apartment and was in the big city, not a small town like derry.
i stopped at a 'stop' sign. and once again, the vibrations started back up again. i pulled my phone out of my pocket and read the contact name across the screen, 'richie :)'
i accepted the call and held my phone up to my ear.

bold: richie"h-hello?" i said, clearing his throat.
"please get in the car, eds."
"what car?"
"my car, look behind you."
and with that, i turned my head and saw richie. i choked on the harsh, cold winds and walked over to richie's old fashioned car. i pulled the door open, immersing the cold air with the heat of richie's car. i hopped in quickly, escaping the cold of the rapid winds.
richie hung his phone up as he began to drive down some suburban roads. i had no clue where he was going. i didn't want to face the losers, not now at least. but, i didn't want to go home either and possibly see my mother.
"r-richie.." i stuttered. i fiddled with my phone case as richie drove slowly, turning occasionally.
"yeah?" richie said, letting me know he's listening. he continued to drive.
