My name is Christine
(I'm gonna be using her birth name and pronouns until she actually comes out[as much as it pains me to do it] so yeah)Joseph ran his hands through his hair. He grew it out past its usual length because it makes him feel more like himself. Because Joseph has a secret. Joseph is transgender. He isn't out to anyone but his close friend, Jenna. She is very supportive and even buys him some of his own dresses.
Today is the day, though. First, he's gonna come out to his older brother, Samuel, and then to his parents.
He takes a deep breath before going over to his brother's room. He stands outside of the door for a moment, going over what he's about to do. Then he knocks softly on the door.
"Come in!" he hears from inside of the room. Joseph slowly opens the door and Samuel looks up at him and grins, setting his guitar down on its stand. "Oh! Joey! Come over here, sit down." Joseph smiles softly and goes to sit next to Samuel. "So what's up? You hardly ever visit me in my humble abode." Samuel says, gesturing around the room. Joseph snorts and scratches his neck.
"Well... I wanted to see how you were doing..." he says quietly, ignoring the real reason why he came here.
"Oh! Well, I'm good. How are you doing?" Samuel asks, leaning forward on his elbows.
"I-I'm fine," he mutters. Samuel raises an eyebrow at him.
"Are you sure? You seem kind of... Out of it." Samuel points out. Joseph sighs and wipes his hands onto his jeans.
"Actually, there was something I wanted to tell you," Joseph says quietly.
"Oh? What is it? Do you have a crush on a girl and need advice? Cause I-" Joseph cuts off his brother's rant by laughing.
"No, no. Nothing like that right now," he says.
"So...?" Samuel asks. Joseph takes a deep breath.
He can do this.
"I-I'm trans," he says quickly. Nothing happens for a moment before Samuel wraps his arms around him.
"It's ok. I figured that out a while ago," he says. Joseph looks up at him.
"What do you mean?" he asks.
"Mom's dresses look much more different than yours," Samuel mutters. Joseph snorts and pulls away from the hug. "So what's your name, little sis?" he asks. Joseph grins.
"Christine," she says immediately. Samuel smiles.
"Have you told mom and dad?" Samuel asks. Christine's face falls.
"Uh... No, not yet. I was going to after I told you." she says, looking away.
"Hey, that's ok. I'll go with you if you want." Samuel says. Christine looks back at him.
"You will?" she asks.
"Sure! That's what big brothers are for. Keeping their little sisters out of trouble." he grins, ruffling her hair. She huffs and fixes it.
"Ok, I'm ready," Christine says quietly. They stand and walk downstairs, seeing their parents sat on the couch, watching some kind of American cooking show with lots of screaming.
Samuel walks over to them and starts whispering to them and they turn the show off and turn to look at Christine. She blushes and rushes out to the middle of the room. Samuel gives her a thumbs up and she takes a breath.
"Mom, dad. I have something I need to tell you. I've been keeping it inside for a long time and I've decided today that I need to tell you guys." she says. Her parent's nod and she continues. "I'm transgender."
