"Has he not lived with me for the last ten years? I just wanted to spend the evening with the four of us." I whine. Everything would have been so much better if it was just myself, Regina and out partners. But come to think of it, it may be better if it was just the two of us. "If another person looks at me with sad eyes and says, 'Oh, you look so well, Emma'. I am going to projectile vomit!" I firmly lets our.
I look to Regina who seems to be the only one listening to me throughout this entire life experience. As though I actually matter.
"Was I awful?" I wince, but she doesn't seem to react. Oh gosh, I was awful. "No, driver, just go straight. Straight."
"Wait, this isn't the way home." She corrects, but home is not where we're headed.
"We're not going home. Can you take us here, please?" I ask the driver, showing him the directions and location and address of the place I want to go.
"It's too far." He shakes his head, he is not allowed to drive us this far away.
"No, no, no, no, you don't understand. I have a very healthy credit card and I am a massive tipper." I reason.
"OK." He finally agrees.
"Whoo!" I cheer, pouring more wine down my throat, I offer Regina some wine but instead she declines and reaches for my phone.
"Let me see that." She reaches further but I am quick to bury it against my chest. "Let me see your phone"she finally grabs the phone and looks to the destination I had set. Yorkshire. "This is 250 miles away. You know what? Sir, you can just drop me off right here." She mutters, she needs to come on this little trip with me, she's cannot leave me.
"Driver, do not stop. Keep driving." She commands. "think of it as an adventure. We'll find a little place just for the two of us to stay and we can have crumpets by the fire." I attempt to reason, but then there's her eyes, that I fall so deeply into, so I batter my eyelashes and attempt to persuade. "Come on, it's my birthday."
Still no answer, but I take that as good news. She didn't force the driver to stop and she didn't say no... yet.
"Look, I'll make you a deal. I will get you some clean clothes. Some nice clean underwear because I know how fond you are of crusty gussets." I compromise and I win. I see her sigh of defeat.
"Why do you suck me into this shit?" She whines, but she loves it really. She can't wait to spend a weekend with me.
"Yeah, turn right here. There's a little shop here." I ask the taxi driver that her personally become my little ride and does as and whatever I please. "All right, I'm going in. Some new knickers coming right up. I'll be back."
"Watch yourself going across the street, please."

How could I leave her when she's like this? How can I leave her alone on her birthday, especially after a break up with her husband and the father to her kids. I'm sure robin will understand... but maybe not. He never understands what Emma and I have not.
"Robin, I know it's mental but she's always wanted to see the moors." I attempt to reason as though this is something so important. But it is, to her and I feel honoured to be apart of it.
"Wuthering Heights? What is she? Kate frickin' Bush?" He scoffs, rudely may I add. He never understands Emma and I hate the way he's been thinking of her lately. "Where are you staying?"
"God, I've no idea."
"I can't take much more of this." I can practically hear his eye roll through the phone.
"Well, I'll tell her about the baby." I compromise.
"Well, that makes it all right, then." He scoffs sarcastically. "you don't have to indulge her every bonkers whim, you know."
"Try saying no to someone with cancer." I scoff but truthfully I just believe he is jealous of what Emma and I have, because it'll never be as close to what we have. I've been with Emma since the day I was in London, and now here I am, 30 years later still as close as I ever will be with her.
"She hasn't got cancer any more." He huffs with extra emphasis added onto his tone.
"Now you're the expert. I'll call you later." I roll my eyes, but he's quick to have the final say like he always does. He can never just give in.
"You know, my wife, she had it. I wish we had done something like this. It's good what you do for your friend." He moans and hangs up the phone. Rude.
I huff in annoyance that my boyfriend can be so damn pathetic sometimes. Why cant he see that losing her breasts was a success yes, but the cancer can come back, so this is a somewhat celebration for her birthday and her operation.
That's when Emma returns into the car with a few bags of clothes and what ever else she got distracted by.
"Do I know how to shop. Shove over, come on, quick." She pulls the bags off her arm. "Ah, that was so much fun! It made me feel so good!"
"You smell like a brewery." I tease.
"You know what, I got us some vodka." Shit! I pray she doesn't persuade me to drink any, I cannot. "Let's have a drink!" Shit!l she pours two plastic cups full.
"What?" I stutter and panic.
"All right, now listen. I've got us matching boots for our hearty hike up in the moors." She distracted herself by all her fancy shopping, which is a result actually because I have time to toss mine out the window and pretend I'm constantly sipping it.
"Oh, good, you got hats, too." I giggle. "Did you get pyjamas?" I ask because knowing Emma she probably forgot the one thing she was supposed to go in for.
"Yes, I got some tantalising, titillating titbits for you." She laughs, such a typical thing to say.

"Oh! Oh! Turn it up!" Emma screams, forcing the taxi man to turn it higher.
"Oh life, it's bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me..."
"We're getting out of London! We're going to the moors!whooo!" She cheers and that's when I'm glad I done this, so I can see how happy she is on her birthday. I'm honoured to do something as crazy as this with her.
The taxi man mumbles along to the song and that's when we decide to get to know the driver a little more and finally become comfortable with him on this rather long drive.
"Excuse me. What's your name?" She asks.
"Achmed" he says loudly over the music.
"Achmed." Emma repeats so it sticks in memory.
"That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion..."
We all sing along; achmed, Emma and I. As happy as can be in this very second.
