I thanked both captains .. shook hands
got some water for my radiator
my dark blue '56 ford pickup
had held more than it's own
racing through town .. over the bridge
when I drove away
no one dared to follow me
at least not in either captain's sight
oh man .. I was feeling great
drove zigzaggedly to my hideaway
gathered all my clothes
a few other personal things
loaded everything .. couldn't forget
my last ten pounds .. high grade
sweet gold leaf sinsimilla
took I-20 east to u.s. highway 165 south
several hours later I was feeling free
shortcut from highway 12 west
it angled sharply a few miles
ended up on I-10 west
a couple of more hours driving
soon I was in east texas
ended up near galveston island
i've some cousins living nearby
I took the sandy coastal highway
pulled over .. fell asleep at high island
crystal beach wasn't too far ahead
I woke .. moseyed on down the coast
a long wooden pier came into view
exited onto the sandy .. oily beach
i'd reached my new temporary home
I wasn't there three days
already i'd a hot date
with the mayor's daughter
Kathleen was as pretty as can be
found out she was on the needle .. I left
drove the highway back to high island
stayed there the next four days
finally drove into Winnie-Stowell
visited my sight for sore eyes family
ran into my crazy cousin Dennis Ray
