i'd left west monroe behind
it was a small country town
yet winnie-stowell was smaller
a tiny Godforsaken oil boom town
I already knew i'd not like it there
i'd lived there once before
yet here I was again
found dennis at his folks house
cousin david was there too
I asked them about ricky and ronny
they'd left town ahead of me
when the big bust began
ronny had agreeably moved in
with aunt sis and uncle jimmy
ricky's outlaw ways had him hiding in the shed's loft
I was relieved they had shelter
J. D. arrived after he'd made bail
him, his wife terri and my nephew
they rented a trailer from uncle earl
I got a job .. moved in with them
his wife demanded my check
every week I gave it to them
I only slept on the couch
every payday they'd get my check
then she told J. D. i'd to move out
I had a car i'd traded my truck for
I left .. drove to high island again
lived in my car the next two weeks
a hippie commune arrived
erected a giant army surplus tent
flashback .. it brought back heady memories
woodstock '69 .. resurrection tent
an infirmary for the drug overdosed
fast forward .. made myself a pallet
two hundred freaks were staying there
my first night .. I was wakened
two a.m. .. three people inside
had been stabbed and robbed
crooks had gotten clean away
three a.m. .. living in my car again
