Under the Same Sky

That Summer

The deal was simple. 

A whirlwind summer romance, and then that was that. 

So why am I feeling the way that I do? let me bring you back to the beginning. 

I was working at the ice cream shop on the boardwalk that summer. Tourists came and went and I didn't really mind because the tips were pretty great. There was the occasional case where a kid ate too much ice cream and ended up puking everywhere and I had to clean it up. That wasn't so great. Then I saw them. 4 beautiful looking boys sitting in a booth near the window. My coworker, Jenny, had noticed them too because she practically ran over to take their orders. I sighed. Their eyes were instantly practically undressing her. They were all giggling and she was doing that stupid hair twirling thing she does when she wants guys to notice her. Which they always do. I sighed. Of course they wanted her, shes strawberry blonde with freckles, and baby blue eyes and she looks like a school girl. 

Me on the otherhand, I looked like troll. I could practically feel my weight as I walked and I was so conscious of it. Everyone said I was slim, but I could feel it spilling over. People only ever gave me attention for the wrong reasons. I went back to wiping off the tables daydreaming about what it would be like to look like that. Jenny came skipping over to me. 

"Y/N" she said, tapping my shoulder 

"What Jenny? I'm busy"

"Come over, they want to say hi to you" She giggled, doubling back and making eyes with the curly haired boy who just waved at her in response. 

She giggled again. 

"Are you kidding?"

"No, I swear" she said, practically dragging me over.

Oh no. I couldn't say hi looking like this. There were ice cream stains all over my clothes and my hair was falling out of its ponytail, not to mention the stupid hats we had to wear that looked like paper sailor hats. 

"This is y/n" Jenny introduces me. 

"Hi!" they all say in unison before going around the table and introducing themselves as Josh, Jake, Danny and Sam. 

I wave again awkwardly and maybe curtsy? I don't know what that stupid little dip in my step was. Oh jeez, they're already going to think I'm weird. 

"We were just telling Jenny here that we'd love if you girls came to our bonfire tonight. We're here on a little vacation from our tour and just want to relax." Josh, the curly haired boy from before says

"Well, I'm not sure. I have lots of chores and stuff to do when I get home." I say, trying to make a reasonable excuse. 

"Come on y/n, it'll be fun!" Jenny squeals

"Please" Jake says softly from the corner. 

I hadn't looked at him, like really looked at him until now but god was he beautiful.

His eyes shined so softly from the light beaming in from the window. His lip curled into a half smile, pulling me in. Well if he was asking...

"I guess I might be able to stop by for a bit..." I say giving in
