Under the Same Sky

Bonfire (Pt II)

AT THE BEACH...

We could hear the music blasting from up the road. I was a bit excited but also nervous, I had absolutely no clue what to expect. On one hand, they were rock stars so of course they'd party hard but on the other hand, they seemed so innocent. 

My heart was beating so fast and I couldn't tell if it was because I was nervous or if it was because of the beat of the music. I breathed deep and got out of the car. Jen and I took it all in before we set foot onto the beach. The waves crashing on the shore, the beautiful cotton candy sky and the four most heavenly boys we had ever seen. they were sitting around the tame fire, Jake with guitar and Josh with a tambourine. I chuckled at the sight. Dan and Sam were sitting tapping along to the beat on their thighs. Wait, if they were playing music, then where was the loud music coming from? 

I didn't have time to pinpoint the source before Jenny dragged me onto the beach and practically threw me in Jake's lap. 

"Well, hello there beautiful." Josh greets Jenny, giving her a peck on her cheek. 

She giggles and turns cherry red. 

Jake stands up and gives me a hug. I didn't expect it at all and turned as pink as the top I was wearing. 

"Hey love" Jake says to me

"Hi Jake" I say, looking down tucking my hair behind my ear. 

"are you two going to kiss now?" Sammy chimes in

"Sam would you shut up?!" Josh whispers to him

Jake and I both back away from each other. He motions to join them around the bonfire. 

"I'm not going to lie, I expected this to be more of a rager" I said, sitting next to Jake

"Um, this is a rager" Danny says, chuckling

"You know what I mean" I laugh too

"Yeah, I mean it's still relatively early, we invited a few other people as well" Danny said

Just then a beautiful woman walks toward us. Her mahogany locks and long dress trail behind her as she tiptoes across the sand. 

"Hey dorks" She says greeting Danny with a kiss on the head. 

"Mac!" All the boys cheer.

"Hey cutie, long time no see" Danny says back to her. They ogle at each other for a minute. 

"And who are these two lovely ladies? You boys need to work on your manners" She says cheerfully

"This is Y/N and Jenny" Josh says quickly "Y/N, Jenny, this is Mackenzie, she's our childhood friend and Danny's girlfriend" 

"Most people just call me Mac, you two are so cute. Where did you guys meet?" 

Jenny tells her about our run in with the boys at the ice cream shop and I sit there taking everything in. I feel so out of place. Everyone sitting around the fire is just so beautiful and in love with life and I just feel like I'm ruining it. I excuse myself, saying I left something in the car. I just needed a minute to myself. I get to the car and just look down the beach and get lost in it. I feel hot tears start to slide down my cheeks. Fuck. I wipe them away quickly.

Then, I hear it. That loud ass music again. I follow it down the beach away from the boys. I see a group of kids that look vaguely familiar. 

I walk onto the beach and people pull me into their world. Someone hands me a drink (much needed) and I toss it back without even thinking. Pretty soon, all my troubles wash away. I'm not anywhere near drunk though, just enough to feel happy. 

A pair of hands slip around my waist, and a voice sounds in my ear. 

"I thought I saw you, Y/N, you couldn't stay away from me huh? I knew it" I recognized that voice. 

"Get the hell away from me Clark" I say sternly, spinning around to face my ex.

"See, but you came to me" 

"Stay the hell away, or i'll--" 

"Or you'll what huh? There's no one here that will care if you scream" 

Just a minute later, he's laying on the ground in front of me knocked out. 

I look back to see Jake standing in his place. 

"Jake, what--"

"You were gone a while, I wanted to make sure you were okay." He said, looking down at the ground. 

"I am now, thank you." 

"you're welcome." He said

There was a minute of silence between us. 

"Did you want to head back?"  I asked

"Ye-yes" He said nervously.

He motioned me forward, and we walked back to the bonfire, completely unaware of how screwy the whole situation just became.
