**Four Days Later**
Every muscle in my body fought against me as I heaved the pickaxe at the stone wall. Sparks few as the metal came in contact with the wall. My arms shook as I began to lift the pickaxe but in pure luck the voice of the Blacksuit boomed through the tunnel, telling us to head to the showers. Rowan caught the axe just as it slipped from my grasp, chuckling quietly. “You’re going to brain yourself if you’re not careful.” He smiled, tossing the two axes over his shoulder and walking towards the exit. I shot him a weak smile and ran my fingers through my dust filled red hair. A few minutes later a hand came to a rest on my back as I finally walked from the showers. I jumped, spinning around, and came face to face with Cater. He raised his hands in front of his face, flinching back slightly before lowering them.
“Hey Mel.” He grinned and I groaned, turning towards the courtyard. “Hey, are you mad at us?” He called, running up to me with a worried look on his face. I shook my head, slowing my pace.
“No, I just wanted space the other day.” He nodded, flipping a bone shank in his hands. I glanced at it and he chuckled.
“It’s not human. Well at least I hope it’s not.” The stared at the bone skeptically then shrugged, tossing it again. “One of the Skulls here gave it to me.” He explained and I nodded. “So what do you think of this place? Pretty freaky huh?” I glared at him and shook my head.
“Oh it’s lovely Carter. Why didn’t we come here sooner.” He chuckled and I smiled slightly. “The warden definitely lives up the his speech; beneath heaven is hell and beneath hell is Furnace.” Carter nodded in agreement. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Donovan notice us, standing up and beginning to walk closer. Carter must have seen him too because he stiffened, the shanked coming to a stop in his grasp. “Chill, it’s just Donovan.” I muttered, turning towards him. Carter glanced at me then nodded, dropping his hands to his sides.
“Melody!” He smiled and I frowned slightly at my full name. The only person that ever called me that was my family and Owen, he claimed at sounded better then Mel. “Where were you? I was looking all over?”
“I got stuck with chipping again.” I sighed and he nodded. “What do you want?” I asked, sounding a bit harsher than I planned. To my surprise Donovan just chuckled, muttering something about Skulls.
“Just figured if I was near you I wouldn’t get my head bashed in by Kevin.” He stated, shrugged his shoulders. I raised an eyebrow and he nodded behind me. Glancing backwards I spotted Kevin perched on one of the tables, glaring at every inmate that passed with a shank in his hands, Bodie, Tyler, and Jake sitting behind him. His knuckles were dark red and blood was splattered on his paint leg. “Saw him take four inmates into the gym today that he’d marked. Though I didn’t see them come out, if you follow me.” I frowned and glanced at Carter, who simply shrugged.
“I’m not surprised.” I finally sighed, looking at Donovan again. “He’s the leader of our gang for a reason.” Donovan scoffed and shook his head in disbelief.
“I still can’t believe you’re part of them.” He muttered and Carter glared at him. He raised his hands in defense, looking at Carter. “I’m just saying. You guys aren’t the most inviting group of people.
“Maybe that’s because we don’t like you.” Carter hissed.
“If you don’t like me so much then why don’t you do something about me?” Donovan asked, his face hardening as he walked closer to Carter. He was easily taller than Carter and looked down at him with a glare.
