I rushed in as I saw the bright light flare from the second floor reside. I rushed up the stairs, only to find Blaze backing away from a glowing humanoid. I raised my energy pistols, but soon discovered that they were on the floor in front of me.
Weird, I never remember them going to the place to start with. And yet there they were, laying before me, within my reach, and still not where I could get my hands on them.
"My name is Elyse Karlifa," the glowing humanoid said as it took on a more solid shape, "And I do not wish any of you harm."
"Like hell you don't, bitch" Stephen spat as he also discovered his Railgun in front of him, just out of reach.
"If I wanted to harm you, I would have done so already," the humanoid stated, "And yet you are all well, no?"
I glanced at Blaze, before looking at Stephen. Sure I didn't like what was going on, but I was in one piece and unharmed. Come to speak of it, I felt better than I had in like forever.
"Your Mother Earth gave me a new body," Elyse explained, upon seeing Stephen's and my shocked faces, "At the direction of one of the Great Beings. I only wish to redeem myself from wrongs that are in the past."
Blaze was nodding, as if he understood what was going on, so I shrugged my shoulders. Surely if Blaze, who must still have gaps in his memory, can find it in himself to forgive this bitch, then why can't I?
Weight was suddenly dragging my arms downwards, as I felt my energy pistols come to hand. I stared in shock at them, and then glanced up at Elyse.
"I had to be sure that neither side would be harmed," Elyse shrugged, "It was either that, or hold Blaze hostage. I figured that holding him hostage would only end up in a worse state than this option."
I nodded, before staring at Elyse, something playing on my mind. I couldn't pin down the feeling, but decided to ignore it, thinking that it was probably just me being paranoid.
"Why are you lot here?" Elyse asked, breaking the silence.
I glanced at Blaze and Stephen momentarily before deciding to gamble on much we could actually trust Elyse.
"Military operations aimed at trying to take out the enemy's command structure," I explained, "Maybe even deny them access to their objectives, whatever they may be."

"There were some sensitive files within the Beehive that our high command didn't want the enemy getting their hands on," the female human explained, "files concerning human super-soldier projects and Intel on pretty much the whole known universe."
I thought about what the female teen had just told me. I knew that Hell-Bringer and his cronies were looking for something, and Hell-Bringer had said that it would turn the tide in some massive intergalactic war.
I knew that human super-soldier programs weren't high on their list of things to worry about, but what could be so powerful that they needed to bring in whole species' armed forces?
That's when it hit me. It wasn't a slow and gradual dawning of understanding, but a sudden and scary realisation of what could quite possibly be happening. I almost gagged with the realisation that I had helped bring about the end of this world.
"So, they are trying to drag out some kind of resource?" I asked, "One that the New Zealand government had been entrusted with the secrets to?"
"That's exactly it," the female human replied, "And if they discover that they have the technology to get at the resource, then the whole world would fall."
