The boy’s eyelids began to flicker as his body and mind grew conscience once more.
His fingers began to twitch as an uncomfortable groan left his lips, his head tilting backward into the pillow supporting himself.
The boy’s head ached, he felt nauseous, and there was a growing pain in his hip.
Fuck, he would much rather be knocked out like he was before.
“I... I think he’s coming round...” A meek woman’s accented voice whispered to a man dressed in a white coat. He smiled, just nodding as he awaited for the broken boy to open his eyes and greet them after a week with darkness.
“M-mom...?”
The American’s voice managed to choke, as finally, Jack Barakat viewed his surroundings.
The room was small, clean, and everything was a neutral colour.
It finally sunk in that Jack was indeed in hospital, not heaven.
“I’m here, sweetie.” The woman replied, her voice soft, and scared. Petrified, even.
After losing her husband, she couldn’t bear for her son to leave her, too.
She almost felt responsible, because what if she’d talked to Jack more?
Maybe if she put her son and his well-being before her job, he wouldn’t be in this situation.
Jack closed his eyes as he tried to ignore the throbbing from his head, he wasn’t all too sure what had happened, but he was sure that he would soon find out.
“Mr. Barakat?”
A male voice this time, from the doctor present.
Jack managed to slowly nod his head, his eyes opening once more as he tried to adjust.
“How are you feeling?”
What a stupid question.
Jack wanted to roll his eyes, but he felt too tired, though he was positive he’d been Sleeping Beauty lately.
“Hurts...” He mumbled, as speaking had become difficult.
“What hurts, love?” His mother jumped in.
“Head.” Jack stated gruffly, his teeth sinking into his bottom lip, “Hip.”
The male doctor nodded, and began to scrawl notes onto a clipboard held in his hand. “And you can feel every part of your body, yes? Nothing’s numb?” He questioned, curiously.
Jack struggled to nod once more, “Unfortunately.” He grumbled.
“Yes, yes, good.” Came the reply.
“What happened?” Jack couldn’t stand the tension any longer, he just wanted to know everything, because for him, everything was black.
“You don’t remember?” The doctor asked, showing signs of concern.
“I remember going into the bathroom at school, locking myself in a cubicle...” He murmured, “Then it’s just black.”
The doctor sighed; Jack noticed the name that read on his tag.
Dr. Grimshaw.
“My, my, well, I did expect memory loss.” He admitted, beginning to scratch at the scruff on his chin. “Is that all that is blurred, however? You can remember your childhood, your early teenage years, yes?”
