The days passed so slowly, the weeks even slower. Every second felt like an hour without Jack, and Alex just couldn’t stand it.
He hated the fact that everything he would do, related to the American boy, or every time he had to make a decision, he’d think, “What would Jack do?”
Three more weeks had passed since Josh found out the truth, and it only made things more difficult. Alex thought that perhaps Josh would go a little easier on him, maybe allow him to at least be able to stand next to the boy who still had his heart racing. He knew that he was simply pushing his luck, however, because Josh seemed to be getting incredible thrills from his blackmail, as if he ‘got off’ on it, something sick and fucking twisted.
Alex was surprised how he’d even managed to keep this up, he expected failure in the early stages, but he knew that the longer he went, the easier it would become. It seemed hard now, really hard, but eventually it would be okay.
He just didn’t want to forget.
Alex was certain that to Jack, he was simply a lost memory of somebody the boy used to know, but he never wanted to just see Jack as a boy without a name to his face.
Last night, the English boy had almost sent a text to the other male, though it seems like the smallest of gestures, to Alex, it was a huge step. The black lettering simply read, ‘I miss you.’ and his thumb hovered over the send button as he registered the consequences.
Either Jack would reply back instantly with, ‘I miss you, too.’ or he would ignore him, and would feel more hurt than ever. Alex was certain that the second option was the more likely of the two, and there it lie in his drafts, never to be touched again.
But that was simply last night, when a million and one thoughts had been flooding Alex’s brain, making him think of everything and anything, nothing made sense, not any more.
Today was just another day at school.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if Alex didn’t share English with Jack.
He’d missed several lessons, purposely to avoid the younger boy for he couldn’t bear to even glance at him, but he couldn’t afford to bunk anymore. The school had even contacted home, claiming that Alex would be kicked out of the only class he was any good at if he didn’t get his act together.
“Alex, it’s nice to finally see you back in this class.” His teacher commented sarcastically as the boy shuffled through the door, ten minutes later than everybody else had.
His mouth remained shut as he tried to find somewhere to sit, but his teacher had other plans.
“Sit next to Jack, please. You can make a pitiful attempt to catch up from his detailed notes, and if you’re lucky, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind lending them to you.”
Though Alex’s eyes were focused on his teacher, his mouth wide through shock, he knew that Jack was staring right at him.
“B-but, Miss, can’t I sit next to...” And he scanned the classroom, trying to find somebody as a suitable replacement, but he soon realised that not many of the kids even liked him, nor did he get along with them.
“No.” The firm reply came, and the woman pointed her finger towards the empty seat beside Jack, “Now sit down and be quiet, you’ve made a big enough entrance already.” She tutted, before turning her back to face the whiteboard, scrawling across meaningless words in black pen.
Grimacing, Alex began to slowly pad towards the seat beside the boy who’s head was now focused in his lap.
Oh how Alex ached to just place a hand on the boy’s cheek, tilt his chin up, and softly press his lips to the mouth of the male he’d missed so dearly. He’d even missed that terrible accent of his, calling him playful names and retelling his flaws, over and over.
