Jack’s brown eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to speak; yet, he seemed incapable of stringing a sentence together. “W-what...?” Was all he managed to stammer.
Threading his fingers through his fringe, Alex turned his cheek to look away from the younger boy.
“I-I love you,” He said, “Last night, when we were in bed, you started to say something. You said, ‘I think I...’ a-and then you just fell asleep. I didn’t know what you meant, but then I got to thinking, what if you thought you loved me? I-it was stupid to jump to conclusions like that, but if you loved me, did I love you?”
As the boy continued to speak, Jack’s fingers lightly brushed against Alex’s jaw before pushing at the bone gently so that the elder of the two’s eyes were on his once more.
“I thought about everything that we went through, like, and it just made sense. E-even though we argue a lot, that’s what happens in healthy relationships. There are some days when I just don’t even want to look at you, but I do, because you’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. You do my head in, you make me want to rip my fucking hair out, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.” The confession slipped past Alex’s soft lips with ease, as his eyes remained locked with Jack’s, “Despite our fighting, you make me so fucking happy, Jack. When you’re at school, sometimes I just feel alone, because even though I complain about it, I like having you breathing down my neck, or being under my feet. I like it when you poke me repeatedly and when I do it back, you bite my finger, and bloody hard, too! I just... I can’t imagine not having that, any of that, or not having you.” He sighed, leaning forward so that his forehead rested against Jack’s, “And as I pulled you in closer to my chest last night, I thought, you know what, I do love you, even if you don’t love me, I don’t expect you to-“
Alex was cut short as Jack connected their lips, his hand sliding from Alex’s cheek to the boy’s neck, his fingers curling around the boy’s nape. Eyes shutting, the English boy, whose hands grasped Jack’s skinny hips and pulled him in closer, gladly accepted the rude interruption.
Slowly pulling back, Jack caught his breath so that he could reply, “Sh, okay? You were right...” He murmured softly, “I was going to say, ‘I think I love you’, but I’m glad I didn’t.”
Alex’s eyelids fluttered open as his top two teeth sunk into the corner of his bottom lip, and as his heart sunk into the pit of his stomach, he almost wished he didn’t say anything.
“S-so you don’t think you love me?” He choked, and fuck, he didn’t want to cry.
Jack shook his head, “Nope,” and he pressed a kiss to the tip of the other’s nose, “I know I love you.”
Alex’s lips jutted outwards to a pout as a hand lightly shoved Jack’s shoulder, but there was no denying the happiness that sparkled in his eyes. “You had me so worried...” He whined, causing Jack to laugh. “I thought you didn’t love me, and I made that whole speech just to be rejected.” He admitted.
“That was the point, it made it much more... dramatic?” Jack teased, and the other boy had to smile.
Alex sighed and rolled his eyes, before pulling Jack against his torso and holding him tightly. His hands roamed the younger boy’s back, thumbs drawing circles occasionally, “It’s like we’re some shitty soap opera or something.” He chuckled softly, “Don’t scare me again, okay? And don’t you ever think you’re not good enough for me, or that you don’t deserve me again, you hear? ‘Cause baby, we’re meant for each other, I know it.”

Alex had never expected to fall in love at eighteen. He was positive that love was something that happened when you’re older, when you’re mature and you know what you’re going to do with your life. That was probably the reason why he never bothered looking for such a thing ‘cause he knew the consequences.
