I was mixing the batter while Akechi was watching over the pan as it warmed up.
"I'm ready. Do you think the pan is?"
"It should be," Akechi said.
I poured the batter on and Akechi waited to flip it. We had made a few and we were almost finished when there was a knock at his door.
"I'll get it," I said.
I walked over to the door and opened it up.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is Goro Akechi around?"
"Why? Who wants to know?"
"We just want to do an interview with him. Someone on Central Street said they saw him the other day. He has been missing for more than two weeks and we want to know if he is back."
"Well, he isn't here."
"Oh. Sorry to intrude then."
"It's fine."
"If he does come back, can you give this to him?" the person handed me their business card.
"I will."
"Thank you," the person said and left.
I closed the door and turned around to see Akcehi holding his left hand.
"Akechi, what happened?" I asked, dropping the card. I rushed over to him to see his hand was burnt.
"Fuck," he whispered.
I turned off the stove and he went over to the counter. He sat down and I ran into the bathroom. I looked underneath the sink and saw some aloe. I grabbed the bottle and ran back over to him.
"Let me see your hand," I said.
He showed me his hand and I saw it was really red. There was some skin bubbling up. I sighed and pour the aloe onto his hand. He bit his lip as I rubbed the aloe on his hand. I grabbed some bandages and wrapped his hand.
"I'm so pathetic," he said, tears sliding down his face.
"What happened?"
"When they asked if I was here, I put down the spatula and I didn't realize I had set it down on the pan. When they asked about an interview, I rested my hand on the pan. It was one of those moments that you don't know what's happening and when they left, that was when I realized my hand was burning. I'm sorry."
"It's fine," I said.
"Let's just have some pancakes."
I grabbed the pancakes and placed them in front of him. I grabbed two plates, syrup, and two forks. I placed them on the counter and grabbed some napkins. Akechi grabbed a couple of pancakes and poured some syrup on them. I did the same and we ate in silence.
"So, are you thinking about doing that interview?"
"I might," he said. "Just to let everyone know where I have been and stuff like that."
"Well, whatever you decide, I'll be there to help you."
He smiled, "Thank you."
After we were done, I cleaned the dishes and gathered my things.
"I'm going to head home. Call me if you need anything."
"I will," he said.
"I'll see you later," I said before leaving.
He came over and kissed my forehead before I left.
"See you later."
I opened the door and I left. I headed to the train station to head back home. I got home and took a shower.
"Where did you go last night?" my mother asked when I got out of the shower.
"I spent the night at Akechi's apartment. I needed to help him with some things."
"And what kind of things?"
"He suffered a third degree burn and I took care of him last night. I told him when he got out of the hospital I would treat him to dinner. But he didn't want to go out last night so I made him noodles. I also told him I would make pancakes for him in the morning so I stayed there. But something happened when we were making pancakes."
"What happened?"
"Someone came to his apartment and asked if he was there. He doesn't want anyone to know he's reappeared since the news has claimed he disappeared. The person asked if he would be interested in an interview if I ever found him. He heard in on the conversation and placed his hand on the pan. He ended up burning his hand."
"I guess you helped him out since you were there."
"I did help him. I am worried about him."
"It just shows you care for him."
I nodded, "Yeah."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Do you like Akechi in that way?"
"I-I guess I never really thought about it like that."
"What did you think about it then?"
"That we both like each other, but we're not official yet."
"I see. Just know this, Y/N. I just want you to be happy no matter who you decide to date."
"I know."
"Good. As long as they don't hurt you. Understand?"
"Akechi would never purposely try to hurt me."
"I know. He seems like a nice guy and it seems like he cares about you too."
"He really does."
"Just remember what I said. I'm going to head out with a few of my friends tonight. Think you can take care of yourself?"
"Yeah," I said.
"Alright," my mom said and walked to her room.
I headed into my room and saw I had a few text messages from Akira.
"Hey, sorry to bother you, but how is Akechi doing? I figured you might have gone to check up on him lately."
I texted Akira back and told him what had happened.
"That sounds bad with what happened to his hand."
"Yeah, but I was there to help him."
"We were planning on seeing him tomorrow."
"Same here. We can all go together."
"Alright. Sounds good then. I'll let everyone know. Meet at Leblanc?"
"Sure."
"See ya tomorrow."
"See ya."
I laid down on my bed and thought about what happened this morning. I felt bad for Akechi. He now has to deal with two burns. When my mom left, I left and headed over to his apartment. I got to his apartment and knocked on his door.
