"I still can't believe it. We're going to have a family," Akechi said as we got ready for bed.
"You're pretty excited, huh?"
"To be honest, Y/N, I'm a bit nervous."
"How so?"
"I'm afraid I will become like my father."
"Shido was a bastard that used people to get what he wanted," I walked over to him. I grabbed his wrist and showed him his arm. "This is what happened to you when you helped him. I know you wanted to be praised by him, Akechi, but he wasn't there for you or your mother. I know you wanted to have a nice and normal family, but the world wasn't fair and didn't give you what you wanted. Now, you have the chance to be what your father never was: a good, loving husband. And a soon to be loving and caring father."
Akechi smiled at me. He took my hand and put it on his cheek, "You have a way with words, Y/N. That's what I love about you."
I smiled and pecked his lips. "You're already a wonderful husband. You're going to be a wonderful father."
"I will try my best to be the father I can be."
"And that is alright if you mess up. People make mistakes."
He got into bed and I turned off the light. I got in next to him and he rested his hand on my stomach.
"I can't wait," he said and kissed me before dozing off to sleep.
The next day, Akechi and I headed to see my mom. She was off today since she was getting ready to move out of the house. I was going to go through some of my things. To see if I wanted anything before she got rid of it. I opened the door and saw my mom was in the kitchen.
"Hi, mom," I said.
"Hi, Y/N."
"Hello, Mrs. L/N," Akechi said.
"Hi, Akechi."
"I'm going to head to my room," I said.
"Alright."
We walked into my room and I closed the door. Akechi walked around it and smiled. I knew if I did the closet first, I would get nothing else done. I walked over to my dresser and saw some photos from middle school and from the time at Shujin. I smiled as I looked at how Makoto and I changed over the years. We were still good friends. I grabbed a box that was sitting on my bed and gathered up the photos that were there. Akechi walked over to my nightstand and picked up a framed photo.
"What do you have there?" I asked.
"I didn't know you cherished this photo so much," he said and showed it to me.
I looked at it. It was the photo of when Akechi and I went to the school dance. I smiled and took it from him.
"I always cherished this photo, Akechi. That was the best night of my life. I wanted to always remember it. That's why I kept it on my night stand."
He smiled, "Do you need help with anything?"
"I don't think so. Until we get to my closet," I said, laughing a bit nervously.
He chuckled, "Alright then."
I finished with my dresser, nightstand, and bookshelf. I opened another drawer to get some jeans and shorts out of there. I put them in another box and turned towards the closet.
"Alright," I sighed.
"We got this," Akechi said.
I opened up my closet and I started to go through it. Akechi helped me fold some shirts and sweatshirts. I grabbed something from the back of my closet and threw it back in quickly. I knew what that shirt was and I didn't want Akechi to see it. I was so embarrassed by it.
"Y/N, is everything ok?"
"Y-yeah," I said, trying not to look at the shirt I had just thrown back into the closet.
Akechi caught my gaze though. He looked over at me and then at the shirt. He got up and walked towards it.
"Oh no," I whispered to myself.
He picked it up and looked at me, "Is this what you were looking at?"
"Y-yes," I said blushing a bit.
"May I take a look?"
"Sure," I said.
He walked back to where he was sitting and sat down. He unfolded the shirt and he turned bright red. He slowly put the shirt down and looked over at me.
"Um, mind explaining?"
"Back when you were getting really popular, I had a huge crush on you," I nervously laughed. "My friends knew about it and decided it would be funny if they printed your face on a shirt. They did that as an April Fool's joke. I never wore it outside the house. It was mostly in here when I wore it and I had forgotten about it."
He chuckled, "I never knew that about you."
"Now you do."
"Nothing to be ashamed of," he said and handed me the shirt. "I don't know what you'd do with a shirt like that."
"In all honesty, neither do I," I said.
"Might as well keep it."
"Yeah," I said and put it one of the boxes. We finished just in time for dinner. My mother made some pizza and we came out of my room and joined her.
"How is it going in there?" my mother asked.
"It's alright. We're almost finished with the closet."
"I knew that'd be a mess in there," my mother said.
"So did I," I said.
"Tell me, how was Miami?"
"Beautiful," I said.
"It was also hot," Akechi said.
"Hotter than here?"
"It was more humid there," I said.
"That's expected there," she said.
"There is also something we want to tell you," I said.
Akechi moved his hand and intertwined it with mine underneath the table.
"That is?"
"You're going to be a grandmother," I said.
"Y/N, that's wonderful news!" my mother said. "You better take care of her, Akechi."
"I will, Mrs. L/N," he said.
"I can't wait to be a grandmother!" she said happily. "Are you hoping for a boy or a girl?"
"It doesn't matter. Just as long its healthy and makes us happy," Akechi said and kissed my head.
I smiled and leaned into his shoulder.
