august twelfth, 2016 avengers compound, new york; and secure raft prison, pacific ocean
Bucky looked down and fiddled with his hands as Steve flew them through the Ore Mountains. "What's gonna happen to your girlfriend and your kid?—and all your friends?"
Steve thought for a moment before letting out a sigh and shaking his head. "Whatever it is, I'll deal with it."
Bucky stared blankly at the seat in front of him, sighing quietly. "I don't know if I'm worth all this, Steve."
"What you did all those years, it wasn't you." Steve said, turning his head to look at Bucky in his peripheral. "You didn't have a choice."
"I know, but I did it."
Unaware of the situation at the German airport, Brooke stayed behind with Darlene and the kids in Germany. While Darlene and Noah were in the middle of a Disney movie marathon with Hailie, Brooke decided to sneak away and try to figure out a way that she could help end this entire thing. As she walked down the long hallway, Ross and a couple of his agents walked by, him nodding for the brunette to follow them. "Stark. Come with me."
Brooke turned around, putting her hands in her pockets. "Am I under arrest?"
"No."
Brooke wore a playful yet annoyed smile before she saluted Ross and turned around. "Then see you later!"
"I'll give you two options, Ms. Stark." Ross called, making Brooke stop in her tracks. "—either you come with me or I'll throw you and both of your daughters in a raft prison for the rest of your lives; because that's how far I'm willing to go to protect my country."
Brooke let out a silent sigh of defeat before she turned around and followed him into one of the offices. "What?"
"Call Rogers." Ross ordered as he picked up the receiver of the office phone, handing it to her. "Tell him we'll let Barnes do psych evaluation at the Avengers Compound and release his convict teammates if he comes back without a fight and publicly signs the Accords."
Brooke let out another sigh of guilt before she glanced between the phone and a pad of paper on the desk. "I want it in writing." After her negotiation with Ross, Brooke unwillingly called Steve, him picking up on the first ring. "Hi, baby."
"Doll?"
"Listen, I talked to Ross." Brooke recited as she made eye contact with the man, him nodding in approval. "He said if you come home right now and sign the Accords, he'll have Wanda, Sam, Clint, and Scott released from prison right now and Bucky can do psych evaluation at the Compound."
Steve and Bucky both glanced at the phone, Steve quickly figuring out what was going on. "All I gotta do is sign?"
