I wake up to somebody shaking me. I open my eyes and see Ally looking afraid.
"Jayden, wake up!" she whispered, as if somebody might overhear us.
"What is it?" I say, annoyed at being woken up so early. I look at the sky outside, it's grey, the sun just beginning to rise. I then look at the alarm clock next to my bed and it says 6:07 am.
"There are soldiers down on the street, probably scouts and they're heading this way!" she said, obviously afraid that they would find us and shoot us like everybody else.
"What do you think we should do?" I ask.
"I don't know...maybe we should go down to the lobby and shoot them? there's only about three or four of them". She said.
"I don't know" I say.
"What if they come inside and search the whole building?" now she looks frantic.
We can just position ourselves behind the door and when they open it we can shoot them". I say, hoping that this will calm her down.
"Is anybody else awake?" I ask.
"Just you, me and Ed, everybody else is asleep".
"Should we wake them up?" I ask her, she looked less alarmed and a little more confident.
"Yeah I think we should, just in case..." she trailed off.
I get out of bed, still in my clothes from yesterday and head to the other rooms.
Ed's in the lounge room, gun in hand and staring at the roof.
"Hey" he said, looking bored.
"Hey" I say, "how you doing?"
"Pretty good, you?"
"Not bad" I say, "Ally and I are gonna wake up the others".
"Okay" he said blandly.
Ally's already woken up Rachel and Brayden, who seemed to have shared a room last night. Rachel has bags under her eyes, probably having a night of restless sleep and Brayden looks as though he slept like a baby.
"Morning", I say as I walk into Ellen's room. There are two beds in the room, one of which is messy, and I guess that it must have been Ally's. I walk over and shake her awake.
"Ellen?" I say as I shake her.
"What?" she says, clearly annoyed.
"There are some soldiers outside, a few buildings down the road" I say as calm as I can.
"What?!" she says alarmed.
"Don't worry," I say, "they don't know we're here yet".
"Okay" she says, letting out a relieving sigh, "For a second I thought you meant they'd found us".
"Not yet" I say. "The others are up, do you wanna come out?"
"Yeah" she says.
We walk out into the lounge room and sit on the couch.
"Hey guys," Ed says, "they're literally, like right outside the building", he tries to say without sounding scared.
"What?!" we all say.
"I'm sick of this" Ellen says walking towards the window. She pulls out her rifle and begins to shoot.
"Take that you bitches!" She says as she shoots them. She doesn't miss any of them. Once she's done, I walk up to her.
"Where did you-" she cuts me off.
"Brayden taught me last night, when everybody else was asleep". She said, a smile of pride on her face.
"Awesome!" I say. "Brayden you have to teach us!!"
"Maybe later" he says, looking smug.
"Hey, let's go take their weapons and ammo". Rachel says.
"Okay" Ed says.
We take the elevator down and walk outside. It's still early morning and the sunlight is just spreading over the horizon. We got to where the soldiers lie dead. Ellen shot each one in the centre of the temple. Brayden must be a really good teacher. When we search the soldiers and take their weapons, I find a note.
"Hey guys, I found a note".
"What does it say?" said Brayden.
"I'll read it to you".
"Lieutenant Robertson,
By order of the Prime Minister of Australia, you and a few of your men are to go to Melbourne and search for any survivors and end their lives. Once you have finished, you shall head to Canberra and join the rest of the military. We have already finished with Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Hobart and Brisbane. Don't worry about Sydney, the Prime Minister has ordered all inhabitants of Sydney to be unharmed, for he wants some of Australia's population to remain.
Sincerely,
General Viggo"
"Wow" I say. "Who would have known that it was the Prime Ministers fault this all happened".
"I don't think anybody would have". said Ed.
"Well at least we know what to do now". Said Ellen.
"What" I ask.
"We're going to Sydney" she says, a smile on her face.
