Order 17

Chapter 15: Sneaking

The drive is bumpy and boring. Ellen is lying on top of me and it's quite squishy. Once my mum got Ally in her hiding spot she took off towards Sydney and said that we should arrive in about ten minutes. I feel us go up and over something and guess it's a speed hump.
We begin to slow and I suspect that we're near the gates. Soon we completely stop and I hear a woman's voice.
"Where is your ticket?" she asks, her voice stern and precise.
"Right here" My mum says, her voice nervous.
"May we check your car?" she asks.
"S-sure".
Somebody walks around the car and I assume it is her.
"Hmmm", she says.
The boot of the car opens and I can feel my and Ellen's heart beat going so fast I thought we were both going to have heart attacks.
"Just some boxes" the woman says again.
The boot shuts and I hear her voice just outside of the car to where my and Ellen's heads are.
"Nothing under here".
She moves around the car and stops somewhere near the front.
"It's all clear" she says.
"Roger that" a mans voice says. She must have been talking through a Walkie-talkie. I hear the clang of metal and after it stops the car lurches forward and a few seconds later the sounds go again and settle with a sound of two things joining together.
"It's all good to talk now" my mum says.
"Finally" I hear Ally say.
"How come she couldn't see Ed and Brayden in the boot?" I ask.
"Well" Ally says, "when we were squeezing them in, we put some boxes full of possessions over them as well as clothes and other junk so that you couldn't see them".
"That's pretty smart" I tell her.
I hear a muffled grunt followed by a noise that sounds like a car dying.
"Did you hear that?" Ellen asks me, her voice sounds relieved.
"Yeah" I say, "It must be Brayden and Ed".
"Well", my mum says, "let's head to my place!"
"Good" Ally says, "I need to sleep".
"Same Ellen and I say at the same time.
We drive for a while and I can hear the sounds of other cars and motorbikes in the distance. Eventually the car stops and a door opens. My mum opens my door and helps get Ellen out, then I get out. We're in an old, littered car park with a rundown hotel next to it. I'm guessing this is the poor part of town. The place is called 'Sydney Luxury Apartments'. We all know that's a lie.
"Finally" Brayden says, "I thought I was going to suffocate in there!"
"Same" Ed says, breathing heavily.
"It's pretty stuffy in there" Brayden says.
"Let's just go inside" my mum says, and leads us inside...
