One year after Murphy's banishment.
(Bellamy POV)
It's been one year. One whole year since I let him get beaten and hung. One year since I kicked the crate out from under him and banished him. It's kind of funny how it seemed like I hated him but he was probably my best friend at the time. Now it's probably Clarke. People say I can't count Octavia because she's my sister, I think that's bull crap but whatever.
Anyway back on topic. I wish that I didn't banish him because there's almost no way that he lived. I honestly miss him sometimes which is kind of scary considering how much of a jerk he could be.
He was actually rather funny when you spent more time with him but not many people did because, well, like I said, he was a jerk. But a funny jerk! I'm literally arguing with myself in my own head I seriously need a day off I'm starting to act like Jasper.
Oh, speak of the devil!
(Narrator POV)
Jasper walked up to Bellamy seeming kind of nervous. "Hey Bellamy, I was wondering if we could do some kind of tribute to Murphy since it's the anniversary of... umm... that day?"Nobody brought up the day of Murphy's banishment to Bellamy because they knew how guilty he felt over the whole ordeal. When he banished Murphy he was angry and wasn't thinking and by the time he cooled down and actually thought it through Murphy was gone. They all knew he wanted to go back in time and fix it, but sadly he can't.
Bellamy nodded "Yeah, that sounds great Jasper. I thought I was the only one who knew." Bellamy raised a questioning eyebrow.
Jasper smiled "Almost everybody has been keeping track of the days since we landed. And a lot of us record major events and that was a pretty big one." He chuckled nervously. No matter what he'd always be intimidated by Bellamy.
Bellamy smiled, he really was starting to hate how everyone seemed at least slightly afraid of him. Except for Clarke, Finn and Raven. They're too stubborn to be afraid of anyone. "That's pretty cool. What'd you have in mind for this tribute?"
"I was thinking we could set up a memorial type thing. We don't have a body to burry so a grave would be sort of odd considering if we didn't burry something it'd just be a hole with soft dirt. Anyway, we could make a memorial y'know real snarky like him and say some nice stuff about him." Jasper had actually thought a lot about this. Murphy and Jasper weren't close but Murphy had saved Jasper's hide on the ground a couple times and hundreds of times in the skybox.
Bellamy beamed. He loved that idea, he had plenty to say about Murphy. "That's an amazing idea! I love it! Let's get everyone gathered up and we can start."
(Twenty minutes later)
They were all gathered around the tree they hung Murphy from. They had carved his initials into the tree, placed different colored flowers and rocks around it and tacked some sarcastic notes on it to top it off. A year it had been since they all almost killed a (mostly) innocent man. They all took turns sharing little Murphy memories and nice things about him and now it was only Jasper, Miller, Monty and Bellamy left.
Miller went next. "Murphy and I weren't too close on the ground but man in the skybox he saved me from getting skinned probably once a month!" He chuckled then continued with a sigh. "I've noticed that a lot of us have mentioned how in the skybox he saved our rear-ends when we needed it. It's crazy how I never realized how many times he saved my skin until he wasn't here to do it anymore." He wiped a tear from his eye, at one point him and Murphy were very close, even called each other by first names which nobody was allowed to do.
Monty raised his hand. "I'll go next. When I first got in the skybox I was 15 and I was so scared. Even though I had Jasper with me, we were two scrawny farm station boys who had never been in a fight before. I was shaking a lot that first week and I could barely sleep. One day I was shaking so bad at lunch that I couldn't lift my drink without spilling it everywhere. Next thing I know Murphy walks over and sits down right next to me and he just looked me up and down and then asked how old I was and I told him. Then he asked how long I'd been there and I told him. And he-" he stopped to sniff back tears. " he told me that he would make sure I lived to see my 18th birthday and that, that was as far as he could get me and I'd need to do the rest myself. He swore to protect me until then and he always did." A few tears slipped by and he didn't even bother to wipe them.
Next up was Jasper and he too had tears slipping. "Murphy always protected me. In the skybox we didn't talk too much but man did he take some hits for me. He'd both beat people up and get beaten up to protect me. One time I finally got the courage and asked him why" he choked back a sob, listening to everyone's stories and then having to tell them about one of the most heartbreaking things he's ever heard was very hard. "And he told me that he deserved to get hit. He said that he deserved all the beatings because all he was, was a punching bag. He said that yeah it hurts but that he rather get hurt then watch someone who doesn't stand a chance get killed. Once our earth skills teacher punched Murphy and started strangling him, Murphy never stopped fighting back. He always fought back. He was always saving me in the skybox and he also saved me on the ground. I wish I could have saved him at least once especially when he needed it most."
He ended up just hugging Monty so he could try and hide his tears using his best friend. It wasn't really working but it made him feel better anyway.Bellamy was the next to have to speak and he was a bit stressed to say the least. "I didn't know Murphy before we landed but I know that even though he was a bit of a jerk, he was actually really funny when you got to know him. He quickly became my best friend and second in command. I saw something in him the day we landed and I'm still not sure what it was, but I knew I could count on him. But I let him down. He trusted me and I hurt him and what's funny is that I know if he was here he would never forgive me. He'd say something like "you're so dead" and then never give up until he got revenge... I think I saw him once on the Ark. I saw a scrawny little 10 year old once, he was covered in bruises and scrapes and he was running from a room where some woman was screaming at him to get back that instant and he just flipped her off and ran. Then one day I saw the same kid but he was 13 and he was running from a fire with guards chasing him and then he was handcuffed and brought to the skybox for burning down a guards room. I wish I could ask him why he did that. But anyway Murphy was relentless, angry, snarky, almost everything he did had a reason and weather we realize it or not Murphy saved and protected us all...
May we meet again."They all repeated after him "May we meet again."
"Sorry to interrupt this lovely occasion but Ice Nation wants you dead, I thought you may want to know."
A/N sorry this chapter is pretty short and boring but it's basically the prologue, it'll get more interesting don't worry! (I hope anyways I don't have a lot of faith in myself tbh 😂)
Next chapter is gonna be discussing Ice Nation and meeting The Survivor!
Hopefully it will be longer then this one was.
Til next time, Peace ✌🏻
