A/N warning for some blood and a bit of gore. ^-^
(Bellamy POV)
We've been walking for a few hours and we just got to the Dead zone. I can literally feel the temperature rising as we get closer to the tree line and farther from the shady woods. It looms a mere few steps away. The ground is covered in sand and rock and that's all you can see anywhere. We stop right next to the border between the woods and desert. "Break!" The Survivor seems unfazed by our impending doom. I'm probably being dramatic but whatever.
I jog up next to him. "Hey, you said that you have experience here, yeah?" He nods absentmindedly "Well, I was wondering, how many people were with you when you were here before?"
He seems to look at me for a moment, but who knows with that mask on. "About 20 the first time, and all the other times I was here with other people I didn't really count. I also go through here alone sometimes. I do have a house here so obviously it's not too bad."
I nod. "So on that first trip, how many made it? Sorry, if that's a hard question to answer I ju-" He cuts me off with a wave of his hand, signaling that it doesn't matter.
"It's fine, I understand. On the first trip in the end it was just me and one other person. But we crossed a huge body of water that led to an island that time, and let me tell you, from my experience crossing that water, we will not be doing that again." He shudders and unknowingly rubs his left forearm a bit. "Anyway, half way through about 10 people broke away and turned back, others died from dehydration or starvation. A couple got blown up in the minefield. By the time we made it to the water there were 4 of us, then one got taken off the boat by a sea snake and another was thrown off by this crazy Grounder named Ralphy. The sea monster thing tried to take a good chunk out of my arm but luckily we made it, just the two of us, and then he left me on the beach to bleed out and die."
I look at him with wide eyes. He says all that like it's not even a big deal! That's a pretty big deal if you ask me. He was left on the beach to die for heavens sake! Left by someone who he probably considered a friend.
"How'd you survive?"
He chuckles. "One, I always survive, no matter what. And two, I just ended up stealing the boat and turning around. There wasn't anything on that stupid island anyway so I just came back to the Dead zone and then luckily was able to cross over a huge piece of desert to get to Ice Nation."
Wow. He left the guy on the island?! I guess an eye for an eye? Blood must have blood kind of deal?
"So you left him?" It makes sense, I mean that's some harsh revenge but he was probably really mad that the person he trusted enough to go on an exploratory mission with, just left him to rot on a beach.
" Yeah, I mean he left me. Why shouldn't I return the favor?" He tilted his head toward me slightly. It's so strange not being able to see his face. I don't know why but it's driving me crazy, I wanna know who he is so bad. I bet this is driving the others just as crazy. At least Jasper is probably losing his mind over it.
"I guess that makes sense. I mean what kind of messed up jerk would just leave you on the beach to bleed out. He probably deserved being stranded."
He nodded. Since he didn't speak I decided to say something again. "Well, I'm gonna go check in with Jasper. He's generally pretty anxious about this stuff." He nodded again so I went back a bit behind to go and find Jasper.
Right as I was walking up next to him we finally started walking again and took our first steps into the Dead zone.
It immediately got even hotter, this is gonna be one burning travel, my god.
