(Narrator POV)
They were still in the woods, on the way to the Lake People. Murphy was still silent, but everyone else had returned to normal. They wanted to help him, but knew that he needed time.He was still in lion form even though it had been a day since he came out of the tent as one. He just didn't want to talk and so far everyone was respecting it.
That night when they made camp and Murphy turned back into a human, Raven needed to make sure he was okay so she pulled him away from the group. She wanted to give him space, but it'd been three days since the fight and she was worried.
"Can you take off the mask, please?" She asks hopefully. She really needs to talk to him. About more than one thing.
He sighs, but takes it off and throws it to where his bag is laying. "I don't really wanna talk about it Raven." He doesn't want to be rude, but he can't give up on the distancing yet. He's not ready.
"I know, but I need to say some things. I understand that you want to be alone and everything, but I care! I need to know that you're okay. It's been three days and I can't wait anymore." She was close to begging. She didn't care about too many people, but when she did, she really cared.
"You shouldn't care about me." He cared about her too, but he wanted her to find something better, someone better.
"No, Murphy! I don't just care. Okay, I like you. As in like like you. I want to be with you. But I can't if you push me away! I promise you can push everyone else away, I won't ask about your past and you never have to tell me. Just please don't push me away too." She was still practically begging. Something that she never did, but she cared and was slowly falling in love with him. She had to make sure that he was okay, and the only way to do that was to be close to him.
Murphy had wide eyes. "Raven, we can't be together. You deserve so much better then me." She went to interrupt, but he stopped her by putting his hands on her shoulders. "No, please Raven. You should have someone better. I'm not good enough and I never will be. Just please, please stay away from me, for your own good." He wanted to be with her more than anything, but she deserved better. He'd never be good enough in his eyes.
In her eyes, on the other hand, he was more than good enough. "No, don't say that. You don't think you're good enough, but I think you're perfect. Okay? so tell me what you want, not what you think I deserve." She looked up at him and cupped his face in her hands. He put his hands on her wrists.
He searched her eyes for a second. He hesitated. He knew what he wanted, but was honestly terrified to admit it. "I want you." He whispered. She smiled. She hugged him and he hugged back. "I still don't think I deserve you." He said. He was serious, but there was a hint of humor in his voice.
She chuckled. "Well, maybe one day you'll change your mind because I'm not changing mine." They pulled back and went to sit by the fire.
He was still keeping everyone else at a distance, but decided that she could be the exception.
The night passed by normally and in the morning Murphy and Raven were walking together again. Murphy's original plan was to keep them all away for the rest of the trip, but he couldn't do that to her. He was falling for Raven and he couldn't just turn his back on her.
Eventually, he was speaking to everyone again. Clarke took her chance to apologize. She walked up next to him and Raven.
"Murphy, I wanted to say that I'm sorry about everything that I said the other day. I crossed a line and I feel really bad. You don't have to apologize for the things you said because I deserved it. I hope you can forgive me." She said hopefully.
He sighed. "It's fine, Clarke." He wasn't very enthusiastic and made sure that was clear. "Sorry about bringing up Wells and your mom." He wasn't sorry for the rest of what he said so he was specific in his apology.
"It's okay. Are we cool now?" She asked nervously. She really didn't want to be on his bad side.
He sighed again. "Yeah, we're as good as ever." Which is not very good. They'd never gotten along so saying that wasn't much of a comfort.
She smiled and walked away. At some point Jasper, Maya, Harper and Monty walked up behind Raven and Murphy.
"Hey, we should play one of those 'dumb get-to-know-each-other games.'" Jasper said. It was teasing toward the argument from a few days ago.
Murphy chuckled. "Sure, whatever." Him and Raven were holding hands and it did not go unnoticed by the two couples trailing behind them. Nobody mentioned it though, for fear of bodily harm.
They decided to play most likely to. They thought it'd be funny and since they didn't get voted anything during school on the Ark, on account of being in the skybox, (except Raven who got voted most likely to succeed) they thought it would be interesting.
"Okay, I'll start. Most likely to commit murder in cold blood?" Maya asked. She honestly wanted to know if she had reason to be afraid of Murphy or not.
"Murphy." Everyone else said at the same time, except for Murphy who said "me." It was silent for a moment.
"Okaaaay. Moving on. Most likely to embarrass themselves in front of a crush?" Raven asked. She already knew who she thought of and apparently everyone agreed. Except for the lucky winner himself.
"Jasper definitely. I once saw him fall on his face directly in front of Maya." Said Monty. Murphy chuckled while Jasper gasped.
He got ready to defend himself, but Murphy spoke before he had the chance. "I once saw water shoot out of his nose and all over Maya." He stopped to hold back a laugh. "I almost passed out from laughing so hard." Jasper sighed.
"Okay, yeah I guess you guys are right." Maya rubbed his arm comfortingly. Clearly it didn't matter how embarrassing he had been because now they were dating.
"Mostly likely to rule the world?" Monty asked. He knew the two people that he had in mind.
"Either Murphy or Raven." Harper said, earning nods from Monty, Maya and Jasper.
Maya gasped. "Or them both together! King and Queen." She thought that they were the cutest couple ever, in all honesty.
"I could see us ruling the world. We are pretty cool." Raven chuckled as she nudged her partner in crime. Murphy nodded along and smiled.
"Next. Most likely to be the first to die in a zombie apocalypse?" Harper asked.
"No offense, but it's between Maya and Jasper." Murphy said and they all nodded, even the apparent victims of a zombie apocalypse.
"Most likely to shave their head?" Asked Jasper. He knew that he would, but wanted to know if the others knew.
"Not me that's for sure. I think you would Jasper." Said Murphy. He'd never shave his head. He happened to like his hair even though it fell to the sides of his face a lot and tended to get matted with blood. That was just the circumstances most of the time.
"Yeah, I would" They all nodded. He did sometimes say that his hair annoyed him. He had no immediate plans to cut it off, though.
"Who's most likely to get a bunch of piercings?" Murphy questioned. He knew that he would. He wondered who else might though.
"I think that's you or Raven again, Murphy." Chuckled Harper. They all nodded. Those two were crazy similar in some ways.
They all kept playing for a long while until Murphy stopped in his tracks. He heard something and he knew exactly what it was. He turned toward everyone and signaled for everyone to come closer. Once they did he whispered to them three words that sent dread through them all.
"We're being followed."
A/N hello! I can't wait for the next chapter honestly so I hope you enjoyed and keep reading!
