Ryuk flew Kira up through the portal and back into the Shinigami Realm. This time, the portal was on the top of a mountain. As they exited the portal, some shinigami greeted them on their arrival. "Remember, no one must know you have your memories of when you were human." Ryuk whispered to him. Kira understood.

"Hey shinigami! Was up?" One of the shinigami asked. "Good how are you?" Kira asked. "Just gambling like always." He said redundantly. Kira just walked away after that. The other shinigami thought he was inconsiderate, but they let him leave. Ryuk attempted to follow him but Kira told him to stay.

While Ryuk and the other shinigami were gambling, Kira kept roaming the grounds of the Shinigami Realm. He was going back and forth looking for the Shinigami King. This long search lasted 3 long days in human time. On the third day, he found a giant cave with a skull engraved on the entrance.

As he entered, he found a whole spine of books attached to a giant skull. The skull had a couple specks of white hair on it. The books appeared to be death notes! "Hello, is this the Shinigami King?" Kira asked him. "Yes, may I ask why you're here?" He asked Kira. "I need an explanation of the death note and how I can get one. I'm the new shinigami everybody's been talking about and I didn't pop into existence with a death note." Kira requested.

"I can tell you're lying. Also, all shinigami are born with a death note in their possession. Are you trying to trick me new shinigami?" The Shinigami King suspected. "No, why would I ever trick you? Even if I tried, I'd fail." Kira responded. "You've already failed, I hear you call yourself Kira, is that correct?" The Shinigami King asked him. "Yes. I like the ring to it, Kira." Kira acted happy about it.

"I guess. Anyways, you asked for a death note and an explanation of it. I'll give you an explanation but I'm not giving you a death note." The Shinigami King told him. "Please. If I don't get one, how can I live longer?" Kira asks. "How exactly would you know that?" The Shinigami King was curious. Kira had to think about this one. "I.. heard it from the other Shinigami." He responded.

"That makes sense. What they told you was true. The death note prolongs your life. The difference between their original lifespan and when you killed them is how many years are added to your own lifespan. Here, these are the rules of the death note." The Shinigami King gave him the death note rules but not a death note. "You can learn the rules with these scrolls. They'll tell you everything about the death note." He instructed him.

"Would you like some apples?" Kira offered. "Sure." The Shinigami King accepted it. "I'll give you all of them if you give me a death note." Kira proposed. "How dare you try to bribe me?!" The Shinigami King yelled. "Yes or no? These apples are from the human world." Kira persuaded him. "Fine, I'll give you a death note but give me all of those apples, got it?" The Shinigami King insisted. Kira gave him 13 apples and he was given a death note.

Kira left the cave and went looking for Ryuk. Once again, he crossed the deserts of the Shinigami Realm. This time it didn't take as long since he already roamed it once. When he walked back up the mountain where the portal once was, he saw the shinigami still gambling and Ryuk was watching, but the portal was gone!
