"Y'all are going down," Hoseok exclaimed, laughing with excitement as the runners from every class took their positions in the racing area, preparing for the relay race.
Yoongi scoffed. "Let's see about that, wet (ho)sock!"
"Yeah, lose-sock," I exclaimed from where I stood among my children.
"Yah! This is supposed to be a friendly competition," Hoseok exclaimed back from the other side of the track.
"What are y'all going on about," Jisoo joined laughing. "Sorry to rain on your parade but obviously my class is better in terms of sports."
Joy only kept giggling while hearing us argue. Her class was going to be at the last place anyway.
"The only thing your class is good at are eating and sleeping, Jisoo," Yoongi shot back with a mocking smirk but she didn't fall back.
"Did I hear you describe your own class, little kitty cat?"
I sucked my teeth, trying not to burst out laughing.
"Think whatever you want, gluttonous kid," Yoongi dismissed calmly before pointing at the track. "Go to your running spot before the race starts. My four year olds would easily outrun you but I guess I should wish you luck."
"Oh god," Joy wheezed, holding her stomach, her face twisted in pain.
"Guys," Jungkook exclaimed, "remember that this is a friendly competition."
"Attention everyone," the principal who was wearing tracksuit announced while clapping, silencing everyone. "Now, we will commence the first competition of the day, relay race. Everyone, on your mark! Ready, set, go!"
The kids started running at his command and every class screamed in unison but the teachers were the loudest when cheering for them.
I just stayed quiet since my voice was raspy lately and watched how the race would turn out in silence.
The cheers turned louder when they neared the finish line, and Hoseok's scream was the loudest among the chaos since his class was running on the front.
In the end, his class did win and Hoseok ran up to the boy before lifting him up in a flash, spinning round and round in exhilaration while his class cheered together, jumping all over the place. Others watched them with smiles, except those who ran in the race.
It was the teachers' job to give them some spirit lifting care.
After a long break, the next competition started and all the children went on a scavenger hunt to find the flowers that were assigned to them from the enormous backyard of the kindergarten.
We, the teachers just sat inside a gazebo, watching them tread through the garden. Some were going on their own scavenger hunt for fun.
"Nain," Jungkook called while running towards me and handed me a red rose before sitting down beside me. "I found this!"
"Oh, Jungkook," I giggled, marveling at the beautiful flower and inhaling its scent. "Thank you."
"Not to be a bitch and ruin the mood, but Jungkook, that's one of the treasures of Mira's class," Jisoo chuckled before sipping her boba tea. "You should put it back to where it was."
Jungkook pouted as I handed him the flower back and mumbled, "Okay," before walking away to put it back.
Oh how adorable can he be?
Hoseok jogged up to Yoongi with a huge grin and gave him a dandelion to which the older returned a sheepish smile. "What is this?"
"A magical relic that makes all your wishes come true," Hoseok said with a soft voice as if he was talking to a baby. "Try it."
"Okay," Yoongi chimed before closing his eyes. "I wish Nain would stop being so dense."
I frowned at him blowing the flower. "What do you mean by that? How am I dense?"
"Oh you'll understand soon," he muttered and started talking with Hoseok.
Jungkook came back and sat down beside me while panting and touching his hair. I chuckled a little before fixing his hair and headband that were quite messy.
"Thanks," he chimed and stared at me with those eyes again.
Those doting eyes and fond expression...
"Yeah... No problem," I stammered and shifted away from him when I was done.
My heart seemed to be doing acrobatics all of a sudden and my cheeks warmed up on their own when I didn't even give them the permission to.
"Do you want some water, Nain?"
His sweet melodic voice brought me back to reality and I nodded quickly. I didn't know why my throat was getting dry.
"Aren't you asking us?" Joy chuckled. Jisoo and her were watching us the whole time with much amusement.
"Oh, sorry," Jungkook said, scratching his head. "Do you want water?"
"I was just joking," she giggled. "Go go."
These girls...
Jisoo winked at me and I rolled my eyes.
"I'll be right back," Jungkook assured me with a grin and I nodded, watching his back as he walked away to get refreshments.
My heart was doing that thing again.
What was going on?
