Chapter 22

"Speak of the devil."

I walked over to where Joy and Hoseok were, and sat down on the grass beside them. The heat of the bonfire was breathing warmth into me, letting me ease into the feeling.

"You and I were paired," Hoseok chuckled, patting my shoulder. "I should tell you, I won't be that scared. I got upgraded, ay!"

"Boy, you just watched a jump-scare video as a dare," Joy giggled. "Who are you trying to fool?"

His bright expression instantly dropped and he groaned, "Yah! Stop bringing that up!"

She put her hands up in defense. "Sorry, sorry. Good luck."

Yoongi suddenly plopped down beside me and my eyes widened.

"Didn't you go with...?"

"Ah." The man scratched his nape, avoiding eye contact. "I, uh, made a mistake... It was Jisoo who was going with him..."

I narrowed my eyes, not believing him one bit.

But what could I do...

I just dropped it and heaved a sigh. "Whatever."

"Where's Yoongi hyung?"

Jungkook searched for the man but couldn't find anyone else but Jisoo around the place.

"He switched with me since he had to run off to the toilet," Jisoo blurted nonchalantly and walked ahead of him. "Come on. The sooner we finish this, the sooner I get to sleep."

Jungkook let out an involuntary snort and caught up with the girl in baggy jacket. "You sound like him."

"Yeah, we've been friends for a while," she chuckled. "I guess I took some of his traits."

"Just like how I did," the boy thought to himself, a small, unnoticeable smile dancing on his lips as thoughts of his best friend filled his mind.

The two of them walked through the dark forest in silence, quickly but warily. The fact that she was walking with a very strong and fearless man was putting her mind at ease.

"Anyway, Jungkook."

The lovesick boy snapped out of his daydream and turned his attention to her. "Hm?"

"About how you feel about Nain... Can I trust you?"

He didn't understand what she was trying to say, but he confidently stated, "Yes, you can."

A content smile grew on her features and she nodded to herself.

"Well, what do you think about Jaebum?"

His face dropped and after swallowing, he whispered, "He wasn't a bad person so I'm at least happy that she was interested in someone good..." Although he hated to admit it, Jaebum could treat her well.

"You're right, he's a good guy... But do you know how the two of them met each other?"

That question made him think. "They... went to the same university?"
