"Ready Mills? You should get use to these bars" the sheriff said as he unlocked Regina's cell door.
"I wouldn't bet on it dear" Regina smirked as she walked out the jail cell.
Regina followed the man out of the station and to his car. They drove down to the court. As they pulled up Regina saw something surprising. Everyone Regina knew in town was there. All her students who she has taught and does teach. All the employees at the college she works in. All her friends she lost contact with when divorcing josh. They all held signs saying she was innocent and protesting her to be free. Regina smiled at them as she drove past it all.
"Ow my god" the sheriff comments shocked.
"Told you I'm innocent" Regina said smiling brightly with a chuckle.
The sheriff pulled over and got out. He helped Regina out and took the hand cuffs off. Walking her past all the people who were supporting Regina and into the building. Stood by the door was her parents, her siblings and Emma. They all went into the court room with everyone outside following. They sat down and waited.
"All rise for judge Andrews" a woman said as the judge walked in.
Everyone stood up in respect. The judge sat down and lowed his hands for everyone to sit. They did as they were told except the lawyer on the other side. His name was Fred Hems. He walked towards the judge a little but not all the way.
"Your honour we are here because that woman murdered who was soon to be her ex husband" Fred announced as he looked at Regina and pointed at her.
"Objection!" Harold said as he stood up fast.
"Your honour I want to call Regina Mills to the stand" he said ignoring Harold's interruption.
Regina looked at her father and he nodded. She stood up with a sigh and walked over to the stand. She stood in front of a police officer and put her hand on the bible.
"Do you promise to tell the truth? The whole truth and nothing but the truth" the officer asked looking her in the eyes.
"I do" Regina replied with a nod.
She then sat down at the stand. Fred walked over to her holding a file of paperwork. Regina remained calm as her parents had told her to.
"Miss Mills where were you at the time of the murder? Approximately 2:35" he asked looking up at her trying to intimidate.
"I was asleep in bed like most people in this state were at that time. Emma swan is a close friend of mine who was sick that night and I was there to make sure she felt safe. She can back me up" Regina replied simply as she showed no fear or worry.
"Expect you who is a cold hearted killer" Fred said frowning at her.
"Objection your honour. That is not allowed" Harold snapped as he stood up fast angry.
"Mr Hems get to your point" the judge warned with a frown.
"I'm not killer" Regina said angry at what Fred had just called her.
"But didn't you threaten to kill him over the phone a few hours before he was murdered" Fred asked reading from the file.
"How do you know that" Regina confusedly asked quickly.
"A witness who wishes to remain anonymous said he heard while you were on loud speaker. You said you would kill him if he let your secret out. Is this true Miss Mills" Fred asked looking up from his files and smirking at Regina.
"Yes it's true but didn't mean it. It was an expression of course" Regina sighed as she sat forward annoyed.
"What was this secret you were so afraid would get out"
"She doesn't have to answer that. Your honour that is her personal secret" Harold said getting the attention of them all.
"Mr Hems he's right" the judge said looking back at Fred.
"But your honour this could of been Regina's motive" Fred said causing a frown on the brunettes face.
"Continue them. Miss Mills please tell the court the secret" the judge requested turning his attention back to Regina.
The brunette hid her worry. She feared telling this story. No one in that court room knew and she always wanted to keep it that way. For this was the most shameful thing Regina had ever done.
"Fine then. The secret I wanted hidden was my affair I had two years ago" Regina admits looking down as she feared the rest.
"And who was this person you had an affair with" Fred asked as he locked eyes with Regina and smirked.
"One of my fathers mistresses" Regina answered shamefully causing the whole court room to gasp and talk.
"Order! Order" the judge shouts slamming the hammer down to get the attention on him.
"You had an affair with your fathers mistress? I'd say that's a pretty big motive. Wouldn't you your honour" Fred asked walking back to his table.
"I didn't kill him. The mistress. I only slept with her a few times and dated for under a month. Yes I was married to josh but wouldn't that be motive for him to kill me rather than me to kill him" Regina asked annoyed and ashamed now.
"Silence in the court. Mr Mills do you have any questions for Regina while she is here" the judge asked looking towards Harold who was shocked.
"Yes" he replied standing up with his notes. He walked over to Regina who was looking down upset at herself. He looked at his notes before his daughter. "Regina can you tell the court please why you divorced Joshua" he asked knowing the answer.
"He asked for a divorce because I found out I can't get pregnant" Regina said softly causing Penelope and Diana's hearts to drop.
"Did you want children" Harold asked softly to her.
"Of course. More than another person could ever want a child" Regina replied with a soft nod.
"Did Joshua want children" he asked not actually sure of the answer.
"Yes. Very much so" she emphatically replied.
"Did you love Joshua"
"Yes. Very much. I wasn't madly in love but I still loved him" Reina replied knowing she wasn't lying.
"Your honour why would a woman who loves that man kill him because SHE can't get pregnant? She had no motive to kill him. It was her problem not his. This is a helpless woman who couldn't give her husband what he wanted. She feels guilty for that. Why would she kill him? He had more motive to kill her than she had to kill him" Harold asked looking up at the judge like he was stupid for thinking otherwise.
Everyone in the court claps to show they agreed with Harold. Regina smiled at the fact she might be proven innocent. The judge started hitting his hammer to get the attention.
"Order! Silence in the court" the judge shouts causing the room to go silent. He put his hammer down and looked over at Emma. "Miss swan. Can you confirm without a doubt that Regina mills was with you that night" he asked leaning against his table to see her more.
"Yes your honour I can. I wasn't awake but I would of felt her leaving the bed if she had. Regina was with me the whole night. I was scared so she stayed with me" Emma said as she stood up looking at the judge.
The blonde looked over at Regina and smiled slightly. The brunette smiled back at her quickly at the fact that could be the reason she's innocent. The judge nods at Emma's comment and makes his decision.
"Ok. I've made my decision. Regina Mills judging by what has been said and done in my court. I find you..."
