Grey was right. I'm definitely going to get killed. The whole square is swarming with Officials, an uncontrollable infestation and I'm standing in the centre of the deadly nest.
The Central Reflection Centre is behind me and I've positioned myself in front of the platform whilst discreetly inspecting the State's Headquarters.
Surrounded by a sea of gold and green, the smell of death is heavy in the air. This is not the place for an Unmarked to be.
I force away the voice in my head telling me to run and watch as two Official's at the main entrance of the building scan people's Birth Brands before allowing them to pass. Entering through the front door is a not a possibility but there don't seem to be an alternative entry point. Even if I managed to get inside, how would I go by undetected? How would I get back out?
Jas has set me an impossible task. I'll never escape alive and I'm seriously wondering if that's his aim. He wants me to die.
I walk towards a payphone. Battered and worn, I'm surprised to hear a dial tone when I rest the headset between my shoulder and ear.
Punching in the numbers slowly, I clench the piece of paper shaking violently in my hand. Please don't answer. Please don't answer.
"Hello," A voice says on the other end.
Right now, running and allowing Grey to fend for himself is very tempting. The only thing stopping me is guilt. I already have too much of it etched into every fibre of my being. I wouldn't be able to cope with anymore.
"Hey, it's Cady. Can we meet?"
