Ashton stood up to turn off the camera. "Okay, we should edit and post this before Liz gets here. Do we need anything from the store?"

"Ash, you went to the store yesterday." Calum said with a roll of his eyes. "You take care of the video, and don't worry. It's just Liz."

Ashton sighed. "Whatever." He took the camera and walked out of the room.

We had just finished an update video for the fans, to tell them were taking a small break and just visiting family for a while. My mother was on her way over for a small visit on her way home from work.

"I'm going to get the mail." I told the remaining two as I stood up."

"Cool." Cal said, standing up as well. "Do you want anything to drink?"

"Whatever you're having is fine." I told him.

I walked to the mailbox slowly, thinking about my one-way pen-pal. Ashton still hadn't changed his mind about this whole thing, and I get where he's coming from, but I really want this to be genuine.

I had asked our friend at management, Jackson, to keep an eye out for anything in this person's handwriting that didn't have a return address and to make sure it got to me more often than the sacks of fan mail. He said he'd put it in the mail to come to our mailbox here. I've been checking it regularly since then.

I opened the mailbox and found a single envelope in it. I pulled it out and examined it. No return address. I smiled and shut the mailbox before rushing inside.

I heard a car pulling into the driveway as I reached the door and turned to greet my mum.

"Hey honey." She said when she got out of the car. "How are you?"

I hugged her as I said. "I'm good. Happy to be back home. How are you?"

"Ready for Autumn Break." She smiled. "What do you have there?"

"It's just a letter." I said.

My mom titled her head. "Just a letter?" She repeated.

"Yeah." I said slowly, trying to act like it wasn't a big deal.

"Fanmail?" She asked.

"Not exactly..." I trailed off.

"Lucas." She gave me The Look.

"Come inside, let's talk." I said, opening the door for her with a smile. She didn't move. "Fine. Last week I got a letter in the fan mail and it was different and I asked Jackson to keep an eye out for them and this is the second one. The pers-"

She looked skeptical. "How'd you know there'd be another?"

"The person, I think it's a girl, said they'd write two, and then they might continue, but they don't know." I told her.

Now she looked confused. "What do you mean, you 'think it's a girl'?"

"This person doesn't sign with a name, or give a return address. But from the way they write, they seem like a girl." I replied with a shrug.

My mother looked at me in silence. "Let me see the letter."

Now I was the one confused. "This one?" I asked, holding up the new one.

"No Luke, the first one." She said, leading me inside.

"Ohhhhhhhh. Hang on, let me go-"

"No need." Michael cut me off. "I have it." He handed it to Liz. :I heard you guys talking and thought you might want to read it, so I got it."
