From: Roxie
Hey. I’ve got another letter from Luke. On my over right now.
To: Roxie
K. C u soon. Parents are home, but talking right now. Should be leaving soon. I hope…
I read my book and ignored the sounds of my mother and father talking with someone on the phone. Ten minutes passed before Roxie showed up. I have no idea where Marie is. when I saw her car pull up, I rushed to the front door and opened it as silently as possible and motioned for Roxie to keep quiet until we got to my room. Once we were comfortable on my bed, I read the letter out loud.
Dear Lyra (and Roxie)
I can’t wait to finally meet you in person! We get there on the fourth, which is in about a week, by the time you get this I believe! So, just a few things to sort out last minute:
Nora will get there on the third, about an hour after school ends for you. So, at 4:30. If you wouldn’t mind, it would be a great help if you could pick her up? I’m going to assume it’s okay, but if it’s not. Nora will just catch a cab. If you aren’t there within twenty minutes of when she gets her luggage, she’ll leave.
I’m telling you this because I don’t want you to write another letter. By the time I get it, the boys and I will have arrived already!
If you do pick up Nora, or even if you don’t, feel free to stay at the hotel with her. I know she’d love the company!
We get in the next day, really early, so don’t worry about picking us up. We’ll take a cab, and try not to wake you guys up if you aren’t already. (Assuming that you’ll stay at the hotel.)
I won’t say anything else here, so we have things to talk about when we meet, so this is all I have to say.
Can’t wait to see you!
-Luke
“Ahh! I can’t wait! Just a week, that’s it!”
“I know! I know! Also, we can pick Nora up! We’ll probably be there before she get to the luggage pick up actually. Most people like to fly early in the morning or late at night, and she gets in before rush hour, so we’ll be good!” Roxie said happily. “Tell your parents you’re staying with me during Easter break, and pack to stay until after school starts again. Mia had a small problem with it, but dad convinced her it was fine.”
“Umm. . . Can I stay with you too? What we did last time was fun, and mom and dad are going out of town. I don’t want to be home alone.”
“Wait. Mother and father are going out of town for Easter break? Since when? And how long have you been standing there?”
“Since about two hours ago. And I heard the whole letter. Care to explain?”
I looked at Roxie. Marie and I have gotten closer, but I still don’t know if she’ll go tatling off to mother and father or not.
“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone. I have no reason to. I- I want to be real sisters again.”
“Ok. Well. . “ I gestured for Marie to join us on the bed. She closed the door behind her thankfully. “.It all started when Roxie read some book about the Revolutionary War.”
“Actually it started before that. When Isabella was still a friend, and we wanted to come up with some way to help you. You seemed depressed. The book only inspires the Letter Project.”
