POV Jughead
Right before we cross over to the Northside, I realized something and pulled over. Everyone did the same.
"Betty, you can't take you bike to Pop's. Everyone will see you." I said while pulling off my helmet. Toni, Fangs and Sweets all nod, agreeing.
Betty chuckled, took off her helmet and said, "I do it all the time. I usually park around back and no one has ever noticed. It's like everything else in my life on the North side, people see what they want to see and no one wants to see who I really am except C, V and Kevin of course." She shrugged but we could all see the pain in her eyes.
We all start to argue but Betty shook her head and put her helmet back on. She pulled out and we followed her all the way. She pulled around back while we parked in front. We walked in and spotted V, C and Kevin in the back booth.
We sit with them and V asked, "Where's B?"
"She's in the back, parking" I said and they nod. We wait a few minutes and I start to worry. She should be in by now. V and C glance at each other and get up.
"We're going to go check on her" V said.
"Not by yourselves, you're not" said Sweets.
"Fangs and Kevin stay here and watch out." I said and the rest of us head out.
POV Betty
Trigger warning talk of physical abuse and a fight
As I pulled into the back of Pop's I groan. In my hurry to leave the garage, I left my coveralls on. Hurriedly, I jump off the bike and take them off. Luckily I was wearing my jeans and t shirt under it. I quickly shove it in my bag and take my helmet off.
"Well, well, well" I hear someone say lowly. I look over and see three figures in the shadows.
"I told you guys that she wasn't who you thought" I heard and recognize the voice as Chuck's.
I smirk and sauntered over, "Chuck are you still mad? I thought that FP and Bear made themselves clear." Suddenly the three step toward me. Shit. Reggie and Arch are with him.
I'm caught off guard. I look at their faces. Chuck looks like he want's to hurt me, Reggie looks mad and Arch looks sad and confused.
"What is going on, Betts?" Arch asked
"You've been acting strangely ever since those South siders started at school. Now you show up on one of their bikes wearing something a mechanic would wear, are they forcing you to do this?"
I shake my head and say, "NO! Don't blame them. I've had this bike for years. I've worked as a mechanic on the South side since I was a freshman. They haven't changed me, Arch. I've always been like this, you just never noticed"
"That's bull" Reggie said, "They did this. This is their fault."
I shake my head and shout, "NO! DIDN'T YOU EVER WONDER WHAT I DID ALL SUMMER? WHERE I WAS? WHY THERE WAS ALWAYS GREASE UNDER MY NAILS? OF COURSE NOT! NONE OF YOU REALLY CARED! NONE OF YOU NOTICE ANYTHING THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO NOTICE. NONE OF YOU NOTICED HOW MY DAD'S DEATH BROKE ME! I COULDN'T EAT OR SLEEP. NOT ONE OF YOU NOTICED THAT MY MOM MOVED THAT BASTARD IN OUR HOUSE A FEW MONTHS LATER. NO ONE EVER NOTICED ALL THE BRUISES HE LEFT ON ME. FOR A YEAR! AN ENTIRE YEAR HE HURT ME. NO ONE SAW. NO ONE CARED! YOU ALL LEFT ME." I'm sobbing now.
I looked at Arch and he looked broken. Suddenly I noticed that we weren't alone. I looked over and saw V, C, Sweets, Toni and Jug. One look at Jug's face told me that they had heard everything. For a moment I want to give in to the panic I feel. To fall down and cry until I can't but then I remember. I'm Betty Cooper and as hard as my life is, I don't give up and I'll be damned if I give Chuck the satisfaction of watching me fall.
