"Hey Camila." The brunette had all but a split second to spin around before her lips were claimed by another's and everything around her suddenly melted into a slow burn around her feet.
She didn't quite know who grasped who first and, really, she didn't even care to look into it, all she knew was that her lips were feeling that of another's for the first time in six months and everything about the kiss felt warm.
It was the kind of kiss that made everything new again. It stirred a tingling in her toes and brought it right up to the nape of her neck where the little hairs rose with anticipation.
It was the kind of kiss that was unexpected in the most perfect way.
And when Camila pulled away and found matching brown eyes locked with her own, it hit her like a eighteen-wheeler.
Because for as long as she's known how to kiss, it was only ever Lauren that could elicit those feelings out of her.
But there stood Vero with a knowing smile and gentle eyes.
And Camila's heart constricted because she felt this overwhelming sense of guilt, this...weight of betrayal settle on her shoulders. Because her heart had betrayed her for a second.
She knew it always belonged to Lauren but it had allowed her to anticipate someone else in her place.
"You're not Lauren." Camila spoke softly, because these were the only words that made sense to her in that moment.
"And you're not Lucy." Vero's hand came up to cup the younger girl's cheek with a gentleness Camila hadn't felt in so long. "And that's okay. How about we just be us for a while?"
"Us?" Camila whispered, knowing they were alone but feeling the need for secrecy.
"Us...this." And then Vero kissed her again and Camila's world melted away and her mind allowed everything to simply swirl around until she was dizzy with warm.
And where Camila's mind was scattered, Lauren's only had one thing it was settling on.
Her dreams plagued her.
They refused to allow her the peace she wanted, the peace she craved.
"Hey, remember that time you punched me because you thought I was after your girl?" Lucy looked up at the night sky above them, every single star suddenly twinkling as if to tell her they saw her.
"You were trying to go after my girl." Lauren scoffed.
"Jauregui, you have to be the dumbest son of a bitch in the world if you still believe that. Besides," Lucy looked to her best friend beside her and smirked. "I heard you have a new girl now."
"It's not like that with Ash."
"You fuck her, don't you? You hang out with her, you smoke together...you guys sound pretty smitten."
"I know what you're doing." Lauren rolled her eyes as she looked at the glistening sky as well. "You're here to get me to sort things out with Camila."
"How's it working out?"
"Look, she's doing so great. She's filming, she's singing, her and Vero are damn near inseparable, she's-"
"Your wife, Jauregui." Lucy scoffed before tucking her hands behind her head.
"We're separated."
"But you still love her."
"She doesn't need me, Luce."
"You're right about that," The older girl nodded. "She never needed you, Lauren. You always needed her but then for a split second you thought you didn't anymore and now look where you are." Lucy sighed before rolling over onto her stomach and letting her cheek rest on her folded forearms, her gaze stuck to the side of Lauren's face. "You've been through this, you've both thought you could go through life without each other once and fate intervened."
