"Rafael!" I exclaimed and moved to the gurney where he was lying, unconscious. My eyes were wide with shock as I took his body on the area. His torso was bandaged furiously to stop the bleeding but the blood had already soaked through the bandages. Dust, dirt and soot covered his face and body. His light mocha skin looked paled, deathly pale.

I turned to Fab, "He was in the tunnel?!"

The guy scanned over his battered and bruised friend and sighed sadly, "We told him not to go down...it was too unstable!" he closed his eyes angrily, "But you try telling that to Raf! He won't think twice about his life when someone else's is in danger, Charlotte...can you help him?"

I checked his vitals. His pulse was strong, like him, hanging on but by looking at it, it seemed he had massive internal injuries not to mention his torso was battered like hell. I noticed my hands were shaking...was this how it felt when your friends were in the bed?

The question wasn't answered because suddenly Harper was behind me, "Is that Rafael Aveiro? The paramedic?"

Harper's face was a bit reeled as she saw her one of her own staff lying on the bed. Without thinking about whatever between us, I quickly explained her the situation and probed my notions about the internal injuries. Just at the moment, Bryce wandered off from the one of the O.R, his face grim and sonically exhausted.

Harper clicked her tongue, "You. Lahela, this patient need immediate operation, which room is available?"

Bryce's eyes widened as he saw Rafael on the gurney, "Is that Rafael?...er, O.R one is free but all the senior surgical residents are in the theatre, I don't think anyone is available!"

Harper's gaze settled on Rafael for a second and she shut her eyes hardly before saying, "Then I'll take him myself. You're my second, Lahela, let's go!" she then glanced at me and said, "You too Turner, I need all the hands I can get."

Woah, hold up duckies, me and SURGERY?!

I gave her an uncertain look, "Are you sure? You want me to operate?"

She shook her head and began pushing the gurney, "No, just follow my orders alright? Come on, let's go! The clock is ticking!"

She charge ahead while I shot Bryce a look, "Can't believe this is happening."

Bryce grinned, "You are about to witness something incredible Charlotte. Harper Emery back in the saddle? I've had dreams about seeing this."

I surely really did learn medicine in the woods.

I removed my coat and put the scrubs. My hands were still shaking and I tightened it a bit harder. The surgical cap was in my head and my breath hitched as I put on the mask.

Soon, I was scrubbed in and stood in front of the operating table. I had watched my father perform it sometimes, so I was not that panicked to see a body undergoing surgery. But me doing it here? That was something I never or thought about and it was making me anxious.

My friend's life was on line and the chances of risk was all time high here.

I stared down at my gloved hands, and my breathing became louder against the mask. My eyes darted frantically to Harper and Bryce who were just beginning the procedure. Harper looked up when I arrived and she gave me a curt nod before bringing out a scalpel while Bryce switched on the lightheads above.

As the white light illuminated, I stifled a gasp, seeing the immobile and vulnerable frame of Rafael. His chest was rising slowly and his face had been cleaned up from the dirt. The black and purple bruised covered from his head to his torso.
