Ten Years Ago...

I watched him wither away with time. I watched as his body became weaker and weaker until there was no more strength left and finally his mind began giving away. His beautiful face looked pained always as he spoke. He knew about it and the drug was not working. I watched him....always.

Months later in the hospital, his organs began losing their function.

"You know, someday I think I would leave them and go to somewhere and become what I want." I softly said to Sylvan who was sipping protein mixture jerkily. His hazel eyes dimmed with the disorder faintly marked my statement.

"And what will a twelve year old girl do in the world alone?" he asked.

"Just do something, anything which can take me away from these monsters." I stared at him, "Please don't mind but I hate your father. My uncle is an a-hole."

Sylvan didn't exhibited any problem, "I don't see why it took you long enough to realise? Uncle Steven is one thing and my dad tries to run parallel to him on that scale."

I got up from the seat and scurried over to his bed, pushing it back and sitting near him, "Why us? Why did we do to get such parents who never loved us?"

Sylvan remained silent for two faint heartbeats, "My mom loves you and me. She always does. Aunt Marlene....she does love you Lola, she is your mother. She just has to obey your father first."

"I wish things were different." I sniffed, but kept my face straight enough to not cry.

His hand gently stroked my hair and I casually leaned into his shoulders. His frame felt light and the once muscular physique was a history. The monitor kept chiming and the beat remained stronger. To some extent, the drug had helped his system to maintain its course but the supply was not adequate. My father had asked for another batch which was to be delivered sooner and Daniella sat day and night in her lab at the hospital, trying to figure it out.

"Lola?"

"Uhmm.."

"Can I ask something to you, and you have to remember it." He lifted my head and made me face him.

I frowned, "Of course."

"What is your main goal you want in your life. Forget everyone else, me too, but what do you, you yourself want to do."

His question was marked by the arrival of nurses and it gave me enough time to think about it. When I read about voyages and travels, the journals and travelogues marveled over the new world they discovered. Discovery.

I answered him after the nurses had left, "To discover, to find the mysteries and solve them. To defeat the consequences of false beliefs and oath. To make the world a better place and to find a true purpose the life has given us?"

He kissed my forehead and I felt his tears on my face. My resolve broke and I sobbed against him. We were in a bubble of time, away from the world and our miserable parents, just us tied by blood but connected by a threat of continuity. He spoke with emotion, "Lola, you need to be yourself. Your beliefs are cosmic balanced but you need to find someone to help you. I won't be long..."

I stopped him, "Don't-"

He stopped me, smilling sadly, "We both know that the time is running out. But you have to remember somethings. Listen to me very carefully....when I was doing my research, I came across a group who were dedicated to find treatments already discovered but hidden by Pharma companies. They are also trying to stop the unethical trials on the patients."
