I cried as I looked at the cast list on the theatre board. To the right of Val was my name. I really got it! I really got the part I wanted! I searched for Whitney's name and saw it next to Essie! She really got what she wanted as well. I took deep breaths and smiled. I skimmed the paper looking at when rehearsals start and was happy to see they start tomorrow. I nearly skipped through the halls to my next class.

Cassius was waiting outside the theatre building crushing a roach with his foot. Uh oh; if he's smoking, something has him super stressed out. He was wearing a navy blue suit with a white tie and his black shoes were shiny. I shoved my hands in my pockets as I walked over to him.
"What's the matter?" His back was turned to me, but he turned when he heard me.
"Why do you think something's wrong?" I shrugged then looked down. He was irritated about something, but he was was not going to tell me what it was. We walked in silence to his car. The wind blew slightly making my hair fly around. I gathered my hair into a ponytail then sat in the car.

The silence began to suffocate me after five miles of him driving. This isn't us. This isn't the Cassius that I know.
"What's the matter? And don't tell me nothing because we both know it's something." I glanced over at him, but he didn't say anything. Okay, I guess I'll just change the subject.
"I got the role I wanted in the musical. Rehearsals start tomorrow so I'll be staying later. I'll find a ride home because it's going to be really late."
"I'll come get you." I let out a frustrated sigh. He's really not gonna say anything.

I looked down at my hands and twiddled my thumbs. I don't like my friend to be upset. Now that I think about it, he's my only friend. I sniffled at the thought of losing my only friend. I don't want to cry. I took a deep breath then looked out the window.
"Grandpa wants us to have dinner tonight." I looked over at him. Even though he was speaking about his grandpa, he didn't have that golden gleam in his eyes.
"That's good news right?" He looked over at me from the corner of his eye.
"No because he wants you there too and I don't understand why. He never wants to meet any of my friends or girlfriends even, but now he wants to meet you. You." I couldn't help the guilt that gripped my stomach.

I feel bad for reasons I can't explain. Maybe it's because I don't want to disturb the bond they have.
"I don't want to go." I could barely speak through the lump in my throat.
"You're going," he snapped. I put my head down. I can't deal with this. This is why he's a douche. I shook my head. I know that he's not. I know that he's a great person which is why I don't understand why he's putting back on the douche act. I took a deep breath. I can deal with this; I know that he's just going through something and I can help him with this.

"Okay." But I'm still a little afraid that he'll yell at me again. I bit my lip as he pulled up to the driveway of his house.
"Go change clothes." I opened the door to the car then hopped up the stairs to his house. I went into my room then opened the closet. I took out a long sleeve grey bodycon dress as well as some black strapped heels. I pulled my hair up into a high bun and put on some studs and a light layer of lipgloss before reapplying my deodorant and perfume.

I opened the door to my room and left the house. Cassius glanced over at me and lifted a brow at my altered appearance. I buckled my seatbelt then sat in silence as he drove to his grandpa's house. He pulled up to a quant one story house with a manicured lawn and a huge van in the driveway. I got out of the car after Cassius. I followed him to the door then waited as he knocked on the door. His grandpa opened the door then smiled at me.
"Lovely to see you Amelia. Hey there Cassius." He ushered us both in. Today he had a cane opposed to a wheelchair today. We walked behind him and it was endearing to watch him. He lead up to a table big enough to fit twelve. There was a chandelier hanging over the table and family photos littered the wall.
