I keeled over from laugher as I watched Cassius land his bowling ball in the gutter for the sixth time. He is comically bad at this. He rested his hands on his hips as he looked at the ball in amazement. He was wearing khaki shorts and a polo shirt as well as boat shoes to a bowling alley. I already told him that that's the reason why he was losing. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and brushed off my leggings before standing up. I grabbed my bowling ball and spread my legs before chucking it. I basked in glory as the ball hit every last pin.
"You know, you wouldn't be winning if you would played the game correctly," he grumbled. He was sulking in his chair like a small child. His lips poked out in a pout and he rested his head on his hand. I giggled at his childish antics then took a seat next him. He gave me a side eye before resting his head on the table. I looked around at the other people here. There was a short Asian lady and a tall black gentleman to our left. He helped guide her hand then kissed her when she didn't make it. I smiled at their cuteness. I looked over at Cassius who was already looking at me.
"So, this means that I'm doing your laundry for a month?" I smirked triumphantly. He dramatically rolled his eyes then stood up. I watched as he returned his wallet and keys in his pockets.
"Let's go get some food." I happily agreed. I followed him out of the bowling alley and got into the car with him. The sun was shining beautifully which just seemed to match my mood. We walked through the parking lot and got into his car.
"You can play some music if you want." I blushed then looked at my playlists of musicals and Disney. I hate when people offer me to play my music because I feel like it's a cringe fest for anyone not interested in musical theatre."No, it's fine." I smiled politely. Cassius connected his phone to the Bluetooth. I've never really heard him listen to music before, so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard Nina Simone's voice. I leaned back in my seat and basked in the sound.
"I was listening to the music you play when you shower, and I was interested." I blushed and looked over at him.
"You're such a perv." He let out a sarcastic laugh.
"How can I be a perv when you BLAST the music so loud that I can focus on nothing else?" I laughed then looked out the window.
"Fair enough." I watched as he pulled into an empty parking lot. I quirked my brow as I followed him. We were out in the middle of nowhere."Where are we going?" He looked over his shoulder at me before he stopped walking.
"The best taco place in all of Washington, but you need to stay in front of me or at least by my side." I lengthened my strides so I was next to him.
"Is the best place really in the middle of nowhere?" The streets were cracked and the houses were smallish shacks that brought back memories of Detroit. Sometimes my parents would take us to the other side of town that looked very much like this street did. We weren't rich people, but we were upper middle class which means I don't really know about the slums of the city. However, the school I went to was situated in a place where the students were either rich or poor with barely any in between. I hung out with the poor kids by default seeing as to how I didn't have enough money for ever the poorest of the rich kids. The impoverished kids are how I learned to fight because some of the poor kids were rude and teased me about being white. It's amazing how oppressed people will further oppress others, but I'm thankful nonetheless. Knowing how to fight is a skill I've had to use many times.
We finally arrived at a food truck with three picnic tables around it. Cassius walked right up to the truck and began to order some food. I looked around at the people across the street whose eyes were curiously looking at us. Cassius sat down and motioned for me to sit next to him. I took a seat then smiled at Cassius.
"What's going on in your life right now?" He laughed at my question.
"I'm tired because of classes and stuff. Dr. Griffin is so hard right now." He sighed then ran his hand through his hair.
