"I wanna take a few shots or something! Keep the buzz going!" I say, knowing damned well I'm probably pushing my luck. I've been pushing my luck all afternoon though to no repercussions- so I figure it's worth a try. "It's nice not to just sit around in the house all day, isnt it?!"
I know Rob gets tired of his new position as babysitter to me and Ev. He talks about it all the time- how we cost him a demotion, how boring it is to sit around and watch our movies all day, how he misses being on the streets. I figure if anything, enticing him would better my chances at a positive answer.
Rob pulls his eyes from the road to eyeball the bag I'd just bought with a brow raised. "Buying a 167 dollar bag isn't a buzz enough for you?" he says, "Dane has really got you spoiled, huh?"
I let out a small laugh, though my mind cracks the fuck up. I like nice things- don't get me wrong, but that's not really the kind of buzz I'm looking for.
"In a sense, I guess." I respond anyway, quick to change the subject back. "But yeah, you know the really fancy Kraken bar downtown? They let me drink there. We should go."
Rob is silent for a few moments, seemingly contemplating my request before he lets out a sigh. "To be honest, I don't trust you not to make me look like a fool on my watch.." he says, "I used to be Dane's frontman, remember? I used to get sent on some spy type missions- I've seen what a drunk Jena can do."
I know it shouldn't make me laugh, but it does. I'm quick to respond though, a part of me kind of intrigued that Rob felt the need to point out that he used to be Dane's frontman.
"Are you scared?" I laugh, making my voice taunting in the way I did earlier outside of the dressing room, when Rob tried to say he wasn't interested in me. "I'm not gonna get wasted, chicken- I just want a couple drinks." I say.
I can tell Rob is thankful for my follow-up in the way he raised a brow at the first part. He taps his fingers on his steering wheel for a moment before letting out a soft sigh.
"I guess if that's how you want to spend your money..." he says after a couple of seconds. "Does Dane have connects at the Kraken?"
I try not to let myself seem as excited as I am when I realize he's actually gonna do it. "Uhm, no-" I stammer, "A client actually took me there one night a few months back- Dane had no idea what I was even talking about. Why?"
Rob stares hard at the road, his eyes barely with the conversation as he responds. "Well, I'm not trying to die today- are you? Cause bars were not on the agenda."
I laugh. I can't even help it. How is this even the same Rob?!
