Leo rushed to the Campsite, a million thoughts racing through his head, but never the most important one until he lurched to a stop, hearing a familiar voice singing in the garden:
What was he going to tell Calypso?
He kept his footsteps quiet as he approached the East side of the tent, facing the garden. He sighed with a smirk, Calypso sung to herself as she kneeled in the dirt of her garden tending to her plants.
For a moment Leo just closed his eyes, listening to her enchanting voice. For it was the best kind of magic, it wasn't like a siren's song or even Piper's charmspeak, it didn't want anything from him. It made him feel lighter on the inside, reminding him of his favorite memories.
Leo recognized the song as one Calypso only sang when she thought she was alone in her garden. It was a bittersweet tune, with words Leo could never understand, but at this point, he knew it was a song of homesickness, describing a life she could never return to.
He blinked as the song stopped, Calypso looking back at him with a smile, "And you scold me for sneaking up on you! "
Leo smiled, but his heart wasn't in the banter, "Sunshine, I'm sure going to miss you."
She frowned, standing up as she dusted off the dirt on her jeans, "What are you talking about?"
He rubbed the back of his neck, "Annabeth's alive, she's being held somewhere in the Underworld, I've got to--"
Calypso interrupted, "How long?" she asked, her jaw clenched, "How long will you be gone?"
He shrugged, "I'm not sure, but I have to leave in about ten minutes."
She swallowed, "I see."
Leo rubbed the back of his neck, "I would stay--"
"Absolutely not," she said, marching inside the tent, gathering clothes into a cotton knit knapsack, "You must go, save your friend."
He followed her, leaning in the tent's doorway, watching her search the tent for anything he might need and throwing it in the knapsack.
"Calypso," he said gently.
She turned, throwing down the bag, "What?!" Bottled anger ached in her voice, "Can I not be upset that once again a boy I've fallen in love with is leaving?!"
Leo blinked, he'd never seen her snap quite like this.
She shook her head, recomposing herself, "I'm sorry, I must be making this harder on you. But this isn't about me, you have to go save Annabeth."
Leo said nothing as he closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around her, holding her closely, "I won't be gone long, Sunshine. Just like last time, I promise to return as soon as I can."
He breathed in the cinnamon scent of her caramel-colored braid, then took a moment to look into her dark almond-shaped eyes, "I didn't think you would be this upset to see me go," he said with a grin.
"Oh, don't get cocky now, " she said, pushing him away teasingly.
Then he picked up the knapsack, helping her gather everything he might need.
"Hey, babe, where are my wire cutters?!" Leo yelled out into the garden where Calypso was packing rations.
"By your Celestial Bronze Reactor!" She yelled back.
Leo quickly went to the back of the tent, looking around his Reactor, "No, those are my Steel Bronze Cutters!" he hollered.
"Can't you use those?!"
"No!" he yelled, "They're completely different!"
"Well then, I don't know where they are!" She huffed, "Find them yourself!"
"Last I saw them you used them to cut wire for your garden!" he shouted back.
"They're probably with Festus's new Bronze Motor with the plasma fuel we were working on a few days ago!" she hollered.
Rummaging through his projects, he found the wire cutters laying on the hull of the motor, "Thanks, Sunshine!"
He frowned, looking in the knapsack, "Hey, babe, have you seen--"
Calypso sighed in the doorway, "Your 24-inch Aluminum Pipe Wrench? You left it in the garden shed again."
He grabbed the wrench, giving Calypso a big kiss, "You read my mind."
