By morning I'm up a bit earlier. I give Katniss a kiss on her forehead and head out after the kids have eaten breakfast. Our schedule today is 45 minutes ahead of time because I want Levinia and Peete's advice before I get anything for Katniss, but most likely I'll only get Levinia's input. It's really cold outside, but not cold enough for snow. Were all packed in jackets, gloves, and beanies, actually Levinia is wearing a kind of stylish kind of beanie that hangs on the back of her head and it looks good on her.
"Dad, why are we leaving so early again?" Peete asks annoyed and tired at the same time.
"Because, were gonna go get mom a nice present and I want you and your sister to help me." I explain.
"Why? It's not her birthday tomorrow, its mine." He says. It does seem a little bad. But he knows I'm gonna get him something. We get to our destination a little after, the jewelry store. I walk in and its empty. A guy, I'm assuming the manager comes from one of the back rooms.
"Hello how can I..." He examines us for a minute. "Peeta Mellark?" I nod my head yes with a polite smile. "This is Levinia and Peete right?" He says holding out his hand to all of us. We give his hand a little shake, he introduces himself as Toby,and then I speak.
"I'm planning to propose to my wife on Thursday for our anniversary in a few months." I explain. "I really need a ring by then." Levinia budges in.
"Nothing toooo fancy, she wouldn't accept it or she'll feel guilty about it." She points out, but its good she pointed that out cause without it no doubt the man would push me into buying some extravagant ring that Katniss, as Levinia said, wouldn't accept.
"Follow me and I'll show you what we have." He says motioning us to follow him to the glass counter displays. He goes behind the counter and leaves us on the other side.
"I thought you were gonna do it on Saturday?" Levinia asks. I shrug my shoulders
"I can't wait."
"If you come across something you like let me know." Toby says. The 3 of us look over the selections. They have a small selection, but its a wide variety. Peete isn't bothering to look. He's just playing with one of the hand manicans.
"How about that one?" I question Levinia doubtfully since she's actually paying attention. It's a silver ring with a 5 carat diamond sticking out from it. She makes a face of disapproval while shaking her head.
"It's gorgeous, but it's not mom." She says. Now that she mentions it, its along the lines of what we said we didn't want for Katniss.
"How about...." She holds the "t" while she looks more at the silver. "..this one" she finally says. Her finger is on the glass above the ring. The ring is a simple silver wedding band with little diamonds circling it and a 2 carat coming out of it. It looks perfect. Although it'll cost a lot, it won't look that way, but not in a cheap way.
"How much?" I question still looking at the ring.
"$8,000. But we're having a huge winter discount and I'll do anything for our country's hero so, with that being said the price is about $6,000." The price seems just about right. I was kinda trying to stay below $3,000, but I didn't expect it to happen.
"I'll take it." I say proudly. Toby slides open the glass from above and reaches for it with a cloth.
"Would you like to add any additionals for only 300 more?" I think about it for a few seconds. Then it hits me.
