(Peeta)
Levinia's calling me from the front door with a voice that says something's up. I can't see her so I don't know what the problem is. I hurry a little with curiousity on my face. I can finally see her, and in the doorway is a group of blue eyes. Just like mine and my daughter's.
"Mom...Dad?" I breathe out, unbelievably. This is unreal. My family isn't standing in front of my house. These aren't my brothers or my mom and dad. But something tells me they are, because I've just called them my parents without having to think it through. They look exactly like my family, but older of course. How can this be? My family died.
"Peeta, You recognize us." My mother says, relieved.
"Dad, what is this about?" Levinia asks confused.
"I-I don't know?" I say, still stunned. What do I do? So I do the only other thing I should do. I open the door wider from behind Levinia and gesture my hand toward the couch in the living room were standing in. I clear my throat before saying in a low tone: "Come on in." They do so. My parents sit beside each other with both my brothers sitting beside my dad. My oldest brother is Blake and my second oldest is Ryeson, which is kind of where Peete got his middle name, Rylan. When they sit Levinia and I walk back into the kitchen silently. We both have loads of questions and when Katniss and Peete find out I'm sure they will too. Levinia and I's face haven't exactly been clear of our emotions when we get back to the others.
"Are you guys okay?" Katniss asks, getting up from her chair and approaching us.
"Yeah, can you come with me into the living room....you too Peete?" I say still shook a little. Katniss and Peete follow me with Levinia into the living room. Still, Levinia's silent, but I can tell by her look she's thinking. When we've re-entered the living room both of my families observe each other. Peete and I look more like them than Katniss and Levinia. Peete has the Mellark hair, but the Everdeen eyes. Levinia has the Mellark eyes, but the Everdeen hair.
"Wow. You two make beautiful children." My dad says admiring our kids. Peete is shy, as always. And Levinia is usually the opposite, but I can tell she's uncomfortable, but it doesn't seem by everyone. My brothers and parents take in Katniss' state and get a kind of awkward look. I guess they know what took place recently for that to happen. I don't know why. Levinia and Peete are our proof that it's not our first time.
"Can we explain ourselves?" My mother asks. I nod my head, speechless and the rest of us sit on the opposite side of the long connected couch that rounds a bit outward.
"Well, I know you thought we were dead because of the bombing 15 years ago. When that happened we weren't in district 12. We were in District 10 getting goods for the bakery." She explains.
"So what's your excuse for not showing up all these years?" I ask, more eagerly than I ment to sound, but I need to know.
"We were afraid to face the ruins of 12." My father begins. "Not only that, but Blake caught an illness and it was too dangerous to expose him to a new environment through it and he was still at risk right after he got over the illness." I guess I could forgive them a little, but 15 years is way too long. Followed by their reasoning is a loud, small crowd of laughter coming from the kitchen/dining area. Everyone's heads turn toward to corner before you turn to where they're at.
"Is it bad timing?" My dad asks. I shake my head in reply.
"No, not at all. It's just, today's Peete's birthday and we were celebrating it, but its okay." I say. When I'm finishing up I look at Peete for his approval and he nods his head that its okay. It's a little awkward at first as we sit in silence, but oddly, Katniss interupts that.
