Happy Pride! Have fun.

I looked down into the sink, thousands of little hairs lay around, and then the clumps that I cut. I quietly and slowly look up to meet my eyes in the mirror, afraid of what I'd see. My hair was a bob now. I looked at my right eye, my upper lid/eyebrow was still red and stitched up. I sighed while applying more lipstick, at the door, I grab my huge fur coat with my cigarettes I rarely touch and head out to a cab.

-

When I get out to the club, the music booming and lights flickering, I meet with my couple of friends outside as they spotted me. Asking me tons of questions like, "What happened to your eye?", "You got a haircut?" tons. I barely gave an answer.

We went to a corner of the club and sat down and ordered drinks. I sat on the couch and slouched comfortably enough for me to smoke a cigarette. I took it out and lit it, some of my friends gave me looks but I ignored them. My two best guy friends sat next to me didn't ask questions, gave me my drink, and let me smoke comfortably.

"Do you think you'll see her?" one of them asks beside me. I keep my eyes straight ahead to the crowd as I've been doing, looking at the people dancing. "Definitely." I say.

As soon as I did spot the shining gloss and long hair, I crushed my cigarette and got up straight to the dance floor. I pushed past people kindly and grinned at the short girl, she gave me a look.

"Nice haircut."

"Thanks." I said. We get pushed closer together just as the song is ending. It gets quieter as people scream for the DJ who is saying things. "You look good tonight." I say at normal volume. "What happened to your eye?" she ignores my compliment.

"Accident." I reply. A sudden urge for another cigarette shoots through me. Another song starts blasting. I turn my head to the entrance. "Wanna smoke?" I ask her and she smiles nodding her head. I take the lead and she follows behind me outside. Once we find a good spot, I hand her a cigarette and I take my own.

"I thought you quit." she says as I light her up.

"I did." I say with the cigarette between my own lips. I light my own as she exhales smoke.

"Somethings wrong." she says giving me a good long look. I look at her and shake my head. "I just want you and it's bugging me." she giggles and shakes her head. She takes another drag.

"Somethings wrong." she says again. I stay quiet and lean my body against the wall.

As soon as she turns her head to look in front of us, I turn to look at her. My eyes focused on every feature of her side profile. This is mostly how I see her.

"I feel like you and me, it's always a race. I could never catch up to you though, never." I say honestly. "You think so?" she says still looking in front of her. I turn my body towards her now along with my face. I nod my head, I look down at my cigarette, focusing in on it and then as I speak pat down the ashes. "You don't?"

She shrugs her shoulders, her eyebrows coming up.

"I haven't seen you lately." she says a little quietly.

I chuckle, "I'm behind you remember?"

She turns her body and face to me with a little worry but I don't believe it quite yet. "What's been going on? What happened?" she asks. I have a little smile on my face. "You care now?" I say and she rolls her eyes a little.

"Is this you trying to get my attention?" she asks. "Well, not exactly. I know I have it, you would have told me to back off a long time ago. I'm just trying to talk to you like normal." I say.

"You mean get at me?"

I nod my head yes with pride. She smiles and turns again back to the front.

"You aren't gonna tell me?"

"Why should I? Stranger." I say calling her by the name she called me for a while of the flirting and games, and the chasing. She turns to me with a grin, I grin back. "Because I don't want you to get hurt." she says and I raise my eyebrows. "Oh."

"Seriously?" she exhales smoke. I take my cigarette in my mouth and suck in and shrug.

"I'm guessing you haven't been doing so well. I was watching you the minute you came in, you don't look too good." she says throwing her cigarette on the ground. I looked over her as if barely taking her in for the first time. A lot of things came back to me from the recent weeks as I look into her.

"I'm okay."

"You aren't. I can tell."

"How are you?" I ask.

"Good. Can we quit the bullshitting?"

"Isn't that our thing?" I said referencing the chasing around town.

She comes closer to me and pushes herself on me and kisses me. It wasn't our first together but it always did feel that way. She'd only kissed me two other times, of course to keep me interested enough to keep coming for her. This time was longer than the other two. She tasted of alcohol of course, but some berry flavor as well.

Never fails.

"Do you want that to be our thing forever?" she asks her face so close.

"You know I don't."

"Than hold me." she says. I hesitate because I don't like following orders, but this girl just pushes aside my morals. I put my hands on her hips and to insist my dominance over her now, I push her closer to me and she makes a sound at this. She looks at me with warning eyes and I grin put it soon fades as I can feel our breaths bouncing off each others faces.

She brings her lips up to my eye lid and kisses the stitches. My heart flutters. She looks at me with those brown eyes and I look to her lips, suddenly everything is flashing back to me. A lot of moments we shared, what has happened to me during that time, the teasing, the games, the chasing.

I bring my hand to her neck, and I push her onto my lips.
