"How are you and Shinsou doing?" Mina asked as she and Kaminari walked back to the dorms after class.
"I think I just need to give him some time. He's never really done the whole friend thing before," Kaminari said easily.
"That's good. He's cool isn't he? He's in my history class. I'd say we were friends even though he won't admit it, busy being stubbornly against it and all. I really like him too."
"Should I book dinner reservations for three then?" Kaminari joked.
"Nah just two," Mina returned easily with a smile.
Kaminari felt himself tense slightly, but couldn't help from lightly asking, "Is that right?" As he gave her a subtle side eye to see her response.
"Well he's definitely got that handsome and brooding thing going on and when he does talk he's super smart and kinda charming. Who wouldn't want to go out with him?"
"Ha, yeah, I can't argue with you there," Kaminari managed to get out around the tightness in his throat. This was Mina, the sweetest little alien around, if she wanted to date Shinsou then Kaminari would support her.
"So–" she stepped in front of him with a grin as if to gauge his reaction–"how lame would it be of me to third wheel on one of your dates?"
Kaminari stopped in his tracks and his eyes widened when his brain caught up to the trap he'd stepped into and floundered for a response.
"I knew it!" Mina cried as she thwacked him with her books before he had the chance to scrape his remaining braincells into a convincing retort.
She bounced in front of him. "You like him!" She whispered yelled with a too-wide smile on her face, as if asking for confirmation.
Kaminari couldn't even pretend to act dumb and he gave her a rare, self-conscious smile. But if there was anyone he could trust with this information, it was Mina. She loved to play match maker but she just wanted everyone to be happy.
"You like him," she said again, a little quieter and a touch more suggestively. It wasn't a question this time.
"Shhh!" Kaminari patted at her arm, trying to quiet her words. "I hadn't admitted it out loud 'til just now. It makes it a lot more real and now I'm starting to freak out. Why is my life so complicated?" Mina gave him a commiserating smile and patted his shoulder. He released a breath and gave her a pleading look before resting his forehead against her shoulder.
She rubbed his back as he groaned into her shoulder. "Mina, I think I wanna bone him."
Mina chuckled. "Took you long enough to work it out. Come on, we need to talk about this," she said while tugging his arm. He looked up at her as she pulled him faster toward the dorms.
"Hey, bro? Are you gonna keep trying to imprint your face into the floor or do you wanna talk about what's going on?" Kirishima asked as the squad waited in varying states of curiosity. Mina had called an urgent meeting and they had all converged on Sero's room, wondering what was so important.
Kaminari just groaned in response from where he was laying, face first, on Sero's dorm floor.
Mina patted his back comfortingly, "Let it out, babe. You'll feel better afterwards."
Kaminari turned his head so that his cheek was squished into the rug, making his words sound even more dramatic. "Why is this happening to me? I thought I was straight. All I wanted was a hot date, not some identity crisis about having a crush on a dude. A dude who won't even talk to me."
He swivelled his head to look at his friends. "Not that I have a problem with the dude part, I'm just confused. Which is nothing new, but my brain is normally the one being confused, not my-"
"Kami, hun," Mina started, cutting him off. "It's okay to be confused. Your whole girl-chasing existence has just been turned upside down."
Kaminari turned his head to Kirishima, "How did you find out you were gay?"
Kirishima shrugged, "I think I always knew so I guess I skipped out on my sexuality crisis."
"I'm happy for you but that's not helpful to mine," Kaminari whined.
"Aww, babe, not everyone knows they're queer right away. Some people kinda just assume that they're straight because that's what's expected and they only start to question it when they have a reason to, and that boy just happens to be your reason."
"Pinky's right," Bakugou grunted, surprising everyone when he continued, "We live in a heteronormative society and the people who don't know right away that they're something other than that, just go along with it until they realise otherwise," he stated gruffly.
"Huh," Kaminari replied eloquently.
"Have you ever been attracted to boys before?" Kirishima asked.
"No."
"Maybe you're heteroflexible," Sero suggested.
"What?" Kaminari asked, still lying on the floor but he rolled onto his back to look up at Sero who was sitting on his bed, legs dangling over the edge. He liked to think he had a pretty good understanding of different sexualities but he'd never heard of that.
"Not entirely straight," Sero concluded as if that explained everything.
"So like bi?"
"It's more like you mostly or usually identify as attracted to the one gender but if the right person came along of a different gender, you could still be attracted to them," Sero explained.
"Isn't that pan?"
"Well no. Pan doesn't really have to do with gender at all. This's more like 95% you like girls and 5% you like, well, Shinsou."
"That actually makes a lot of sense. Wait. How do you know it's Shinsou?" Kaminari grumbled. "I didn't even know it was Shinsou until like a day ago."
The three of them shared a knowing look while Bakugou just made an exasperated noise.
"Babe? You wear your heart on your sleeve. If anyone cared to look, they'd know," Mina said.
Kaminari grumbled defensively but Kirishima cut him off. "So you're okay with it all?"
Kaminari just shrugged. "Not like I can change it anyway so I might as well get used to it." He sat up against the bed and smiled at his friends. "I probably wouldn't be okay with it if I didn't have you guys here for me though."
That was met with smiles and a tch from Bakugou, which he took to mean, obviously we'd be there for you.
"What do I do now? Tell the world I'm Shinsou-sexual?"
Mina snorted at his joke. She was worried he was going to escalate to full blown crisis mode but of course he'd just accept it as easy as that. She smiled at him before saying, "Let's think of a way to get him to talk to you first."
