It's Their Loss if They Can't See How Rad You Are

"So, uh, the practical part of the report, do you think we've done enough on that part?" Kaminari questioned, somewhat uncomfortably as he sat against his bed with Shinsou opposite him.

"Yeah, let's not make it any harder than it needs to be."

Kaminari snapped his head up to look at him but he could only see his eyes over his open laptop balanced on his knees and Shinsou was innocently looking at his screen. "Right. I'll just use what I know of your quirk and see how I go with the questions."

Shinsou nodded, eyes still trained on his screen. "Let me know if it gets too hard and I'll help you out."

Kaminari narrowed his eyes at him, one accidental dick joke could go ignored, but two? He had to know what he was doing. "Did you just...?"

He watched the skin around Shinsou's eyes crinkle and he could see him fighting the smile that was trying to break across his face. He realised the bitch was laughing.

Kaminari groaned and buried his face in his arms crossed over his knees. It was more to hide his smile though, he was way more amused than he pretended to be because he'd rarely seen Shinsou be this playful. "This is not nearly as entertaining as you seem to think it is."

"It really is," Shinsou insisted. "And here I was thinking working with you was going to be horrible."

Kaminari peaked around his arms to answer him with a lazy grin. "And is it as bad as you thought?" Am I as bad as you thought, was what he didn't have the nerve to say.

"Worse," Shinsou said dryly but Kaminari caught the smile that flashed across his face.

Kaminari's skin tingled the same way it did when he covered his body in electricity and he turned his face back into his arms to hide the silly shade of pink that Shinsou's smile had caused to bloom in his cheeks.

He wasn't sure what to think of their exchange, he just knew he really liked this new side of him. Someone who could keep up with his teasing and give as good as he gave was rare. That's why he loved his squad so much. They could take his teasing and throw it back at him with a grin. As he thought about it though, Shinsou didn't quite fit into his normal friends category. This friendship they'd made felt a little bit different. He thought about him a little too often to be 'just friends'.

In the contemplative quiet after Kaminari had taken his teasing well, Shinsou sat back and stared at the words on his screen but they only blurred together as he drifted into his own thoughts. He replayed, for the hundredth time, the scene that had played out that morning before school.

He was sitting on the bench where he usually met Midoriya before class when Kaminari dropped down next to him, as close as he normally did. The blond put his hand on Shinsou's knee to get his attention and left it there as he showed him a cat meme on his phone.

Midoriya's eyes flicked between the two boys as he approached and he cocked his head to the side, analysing. "Morning Shinsou, Kaminari! So are you two, like, uh, a thing?" he asked sincerely with blush stained cheeks.

Shinsou snorted and Kaminari laughed, both easily brushing it off and laughing at the ridiculousness of the question. Shinsou didn't miss the way Kaminari quickly snatched his hand back though.

It was this comment that had replayed over and over in his head all day and the more thought he gave it, the less ridiculous it started to become.

He remembered liking things about his friend, things that a friend wouldn't necessarily notice. Like how the honey gold tones in his eyes glowed with passion or mischief. How he could make a joke out of any situation. He liked how little sparks danced over his knuckles when he was excited. How he was able to make anyone smile just by being himself. Hell, he even liked his shocking pick up lines.

"Ya know?"

Kaminari's voice pulled him out of his thoughts and he gave a noncommittal shrug because he did in fact not know because he guiltily hadn't been paying attention to a word Kaminari had been saying. The last thing he'd heard him say way something about newest girl he'd been turned down by when Shinsou had tuned out.

Kaminari had somehow dealt with Bakugou's limited social quota for the last year so he was more than capable of dealing with Shinsou's shrug as a response. He looked at the time and realised he really should be going. It seemed that his shrug was the right answer because Kaminari continued talking.

"It's never enough. At this rate, I'm gonna die alone with a bunch of cats," Kaminari muttered as Shinsou stood and packed his things into his bag.

Shinsou snorted softly and looked down at him, "Nothing wrong with that. Seems like a pretty good deal if you ask me."

"Of course you'd say that," Kaminari humphed.

Shinsou answered him with a shrug and a smile as he swung his bag onto his shoulder. He opened his door to leave but stopped, considering his next words. "You'll be enough for the right person. It's their loss if they can't see how rad you are," he said quietly over his shoulder.

Kaminari looked up, completely caught off guard by his words with eyes that were a little too wide, willing him silently to turn around so he could see his face.

It almost looked like he was going to say more as he paused, one foot out the door and a hand on the frame, but he released a quiet breath and stepped out into the hall instead.

In the quiet of his room, Kaminari was left wondering what the hell that had been as the words replayed in his mind.

Whether Shinsou realised it then or not, something had just changed between them and he had the uncanny feeling that there was no going back now.
