"Hey, Kami! Wanna come watch a movie with us in my room before dinner?" Mina asked as she made her way over to his desk with Tsu and Hakagure in tow.
"Can't, got a study date with Shinson."
"Again?" Mina asked, confused and a little shocked.
"Yeah I think he wants to get this report finished as quick as he can so he can be done with me," Kaminari said with a laugh.
"Wait, Shinson?" Hakagure asked.
"Yeah, coz Dadzawa," Kaminari turned his head like it was the most obvious thing in the world, "So Shinson."
"Never call him that to his face," Tsu grimaced while Mina doubled over in laughter.
Shinsou scanned the tables for his partner and spotted the blond leaning against a table where his classmates, the girl with the earjacks and the elbow tape guy, sat with their books open. As Shinsou approached, he picked up their conversation.
"Do you have science fifth period?" Kaminari asked the girl. "Because I'm sure we have chemistry together."
"I think it's history which is what you should be right now," she said without even sparing him a glance and went back to what she was doing.
"You just got schooooled," Sero said. "Get it? School because of your line about classes."
Kaminari grinned and fist bumped his bro even though the joke was at his expense.
Kaminari turned to Shinsou who he was sure had heard the whole thing. "See why I need to meet the babes from other classes? The girls in my class don't appreciate my pickup lines."
"It seems like you need all the help you can get," Shinsou snarked. "I honestly can't believe how uncool you are."
Kaminari shrugged, undeterred. "That's kinda just how we communicate now. I don't think we even know how to be nice to each other anymore."
"It figures if she's always a victim of your pickup lines. If I agree to help you, will you make sure I don't have to witness the trainwreck again?"
Kaminari smiled innocently at him and nodded his head.
"Can you stop doing that? It's distracting."
Shinsou stared, okay glared, at the blond who seemed deep in thought while he stared at his screen. He was making this soft clacking noise and Shinsou realised it was his pen running absentmindedly back and forth over his teeth.
Kaminari huffed. "Are you actually complaining about me not making noise? I'm not even doing anything!"
Shinsou looked back at him, unimpressed. It was a look that Kaminari had come to associate with Shinsou. And, unnervingly, with Aizawa.
"I wasn't just teasing when I said I'm quiet when my mouth is busy."
Apparently Kaminari liked to have something in his mouth while he studied. Whether it was his bottom lip or his thumbnail or when he's deep in thought, his pen that he chewed on the end of. And it was as distracting as it was annoying.
"Would you rather I chew on my pen or let my leg bounce under the table?" Kaminari asked. "Gotta let the chaotic energy out somehow."
Shinsou reached into his bag and pulled out a pack of gummy snakes. He grabbed one out and tossed it at the blond. "At least chew on this, you'll break your teeth chewing on your pen."
"Aww, Shin, are you looking out for me? Who knew you were such a softy?"
Shinsou reached into the bag, grabbed another snake and threw it, with alarming speed and precision Kaminari thought, at his forehead.
Thankful for his good reflexes, Kaminari swiped it before it could hit him and stuffed it in his mouth. He smiled at Shinsou before making a shh gesture with his finger as he gestured at the cranky librarian.
Shinsou just huffed and turned back to his own screen and the pair continued typing out their answers in comfortable, uncommon silence.
The peace and quiet lasted until it was broken by a voice. Surprisingly, not Kaminari's.
"Hey, Shinsou?"
Both boys looked up to see Kendo, who had enlarged one of her hands to carry a huge stack of library books, standing at their table.
"Hey. Can I help you?" Shinsou asked and Kaminari internally grumbled at the fact that he'd never been smiled at for interrupting Shinsou's thoughts. It was the most pleasant Kaminari had seen him look and he kind of wanted that look directed at him.
"I just wanted to make sure you were coming to our study session later," the orange haired girl asked.
"That's tonight, isn't it? Yeah, I should be there," Shinsou said and then he actually freaking smiled at her and it was all straight teeth and soft eyes and Kaminari huffed.
"Oh good," she said in a voice that was much too happy for talking about study plans but what did he expect from the class rep?
Kaminari looked pointedly at her hand cradling her books and back up to her face with a sly smirk before saying, "Your hand looks heavy, can I hold it for you?"
Kendo laughed good naturedly at his attempt. "Uh, no thanks, Kaminari, I think I've got it. Enjoy your studying, I'll see you later, Shinsou," she said as she turned and left but not before making a gross noise.
"Did Kendo just giggle!? I swear I've never heard that girl make that noise before," Kaminari said incredulously as he looked between Kendo and Shinsou.
Shinsou just shrugged, as unaffected as ever and turned back to his assignment.
Kaminari huffed. "I was sure that line would work," he muttered to himself.
Shinsou turned to him, incredulous. "Is everyone in the hero course delusional or just you?" He shook his head and without waiting for an answer said, "Your pick up lines are sh-"
"Language!" Kaminari gasped. "We are in a library."
"Shocking," Shinsou deadpanned.
Kaminari grinned, wide eyed, back at him, waiting for him to get the joke.
Shinsou stared back, unflinching so Kaminari let a spark dance between his fingertips. "Shocking? Really?"
Shinsou groaned as understanding dawned on him and let out a long suffering sigh.
